Wrestling Launch Social Media Campaign One Month Ahead of IOC Session

August 8, 2013

Wrestling has launched a new social media campaign to help in their bid to be included in the 2020 Olympic Games.

The #TakeAStance campaign is hoping to engage wrestlers and fans, generic who have been encouraged to take photos of themselves in their wrestling stance and send them in to the International Wrestling Federation (FILA) through email or social media.

FILA President Nenad Lalovic said: “#TakeAStance is an easy way for all wrestling fans, from around the World, to show their support for Olympic wrestling.

“Regardless of which one of our 177 national federations you wrestle for or support, we encourage everyone that wants to save Olympic wrestling to take part in this fun and engaging social media campaign.

#TakeAStance comes after FILA’s Thunderclap drive, which was another social media tool where users could allocate a post to show their support for the bid, with the message ‘Did you know YOU can help Save Olympic Wrestling? Help me spread the word today.’

Wrestling’s competitors baseball/softball and squash also have their own social media campaigns they are pushing ahead of the International Olympic Committee’s (IOC) vote on September 8.

Baseball/softball has their Play Ball 2020 campaign, whilst squash have used #Vote4Squash to drum up support for their bid.
