Twitter Confirms Vine Relaunch as Camera App

January 9, 2017

Social media website Twitter has confirmed that its video-sharing service Vine will be relaunched as a camera app on January 17.

Vine will be rebranded Vine Camera as part of the deal, with the existing Vine website remaining active as an archive for created vines.

Vine Camera will allow users to create looping 6.5-second videos and share them to Twitter.

Vine has been a useful tool in the sports industry since its inception in early 2013, with clubs and federations using behind-the-scenes footage and highlight clips to increase fan engagement via video content.

Twitter has been making a concerted effort in recent times to penetrate the sports market, with live streaming of events such as the PGA Tour and NFL coming in 2017.
