Sports To Hear Appeals Against Funding Cuts

February 6, 2017

Seven sports will have their appeals against UK Sport funding cuts heard early this week.

The sports – badminton, table tennis, weightlifting, archery, fencing, goalball, and wheelchair rugby – have all appealed against UK Sport’s decision to cut their funding for the 2020 four-year Olympic cycle.

Badminton has seen all its £5.7m funding withdrawn, despite exceeding its performance target for the 2016 Rio Games by bringing home a bronze medal.

UK Sport has declared an intention to prioritise sports with the highest chance of winning medals in 2020.

The outcomes of the appeals will be revealed by the end of February, with a further appeal to Sport Resolutions UK available to unsuccessful parties.
