Glasgow 2014 Commonwealth Games organisers have announced RGS (UK) Ltd as Official Furniture Provider for the Games.

The company, stomach which has a strong track record with high-profile, large-scale international events, previously supplied furniture, fittings and equipment for the Athens 2004 Olympic and Paralympic Games and the Sydney 2000 Olympic and Paralympic Games, as well as the Commonwealth Games in Melbourne in 2006.

Most recently, the firm supplied stock ranging from the high Spectator Services Chairs around the Olympic Park, over 80,000 folding chairs as well as furnishing nearly 18,000 bedroom spaces in the Athletes’ Village in Stratford, the Diving Umpire chairs as well as the A&E Trolleys used at every Venue at London 2012.

As part of the contract, equipment previously used at London 2012 will be relocated for use in Glasgow alongside newly manufactured items provided across Games Venues, the Athletes’ Village, hospitality and broadcast centres.

Glasgow 2014’s Chief Executive David Grevemberg said: “RGS will be providing Glasgow 2014 with 300,000 items, the vast majority of which were used at London 2012, and are currently being put into 350 shipping containers bound for Scotland.

The Group’s proven track record of supplying furniture to Olympic, Paralympic and Commonwealth Games in the past will put us in a great position to stage a fantastic athlete centred, sport focused Games in Glasgow in 2014.

“Sustainability is very high on our agenda and we are looking forward to working with a company who has previously been recognised for their work on producing sustainable outcomes from major sporting events.”

Paul Ramler, CEO RGS, said: “Following on from our work with London 2012, we are delighted to be named as Official Games Furniture Provider for the Glasgow 2014 Commonwealth Games.
