NBA to Launch Official German Website

January 24, 2013

The National Basketball Association (NBA) have announced the launch of NBA.de, a new online destination for German fans.

The NBA has partnered with digital sports media group PERFORM for the new site, which will stream one live game free per week and offer multimedia content and real-time statistics. NBA.de will be hosted in a dedication section of spox.com, which is owned by PERFORM. It will also feature daily highlights and exclusive editorials from spox.com’s team of NBA experts.

Speaking exclusively to iSportconnect, Dan Markham, NBA Vice President of Media Distribution and Emerging Markets, said: “The [German] interest in the NBA and in Dirk Nowitzki in particular was reinforced by the success of the game in Berlin that sold out in less than 1-hour, (a record for any NBA game in Europe). Germany has a strong and passionate NBA fan base who have responded overwhelmingly in recent years to our digital offering, NBA LEAGUE PASS International. Such indicators, played a part in our decision to launch NBA.de.”

“Our German fans are young and tech savy and it is crucial that we provide access to our content digitally across all platforms, allowing our fans to engage with the NBA like never before. It will be a one-stop destination for fans in Germany and we are very excited about our partnership with Perform.”

Manuel Lopez, Managing Director of PERFORM Germany, added: “The NBA is one of the most exciting sports competitions in the world and a truly global sports brand. We are delighted to be working with the NBA to grow its audience base in Germany and Europe and look forward to providing German basketball fans with greater access to live games and digital content.”
