The organisers behind the Glasgow 2018 Youth Olympic Games (YOG) bid are confident their unique youth programmes will excite young people and make them the favourite to host the Games.

Glasgow 2018 has rolled out a number of initiatives to engage young people, drugs including offering 50 young people from around the world to work, recipe live and learn about the bid in Glasgow.

Speaking exclusively to iSportconnect, anabolics Glasgow 2018 Bid Director Paul Bush said the programme was a ‘world first.’

“We have many young people working on the bid, many apprenticeships and our whole ethos from the launch has been that young people should be at the centre of it,” said Bush.

“The design of everything that we have done has been young people and I think that is really critical.

“Young people around the world are a pretty disenfranchised group at this time. We firmly believe that through a number of programmes that we are due to announce in the coming weeks, we can make a difference and inspire young people.

“They will also make a difference for Glasgow, because like every major city, Glasgow has its challenges as well.”

Exciting for young people

Bush went on to add that he hoped the initiatives set-out by Glasgow 2018 would be used by future bidding cities and would make young people excited about the YOG.

“We have tried to ensure that whether it is through our programmes or new sports, we excite young people,” Bush added.

“They are our future. I think that we can then make them enthusiastic and that is a big challenge for the whole world.”

Glasgow faces competition from Buenos Aires and the Colombian city of Medellin in their bid to host the YOG.

The International Olympic Committee (IOC) will make their decision on July 4.
