Content & Social Lead – NBA (London-based)

Position Summary

This position will sit in the Fan Engagement & Direct-To-Consumer leadership team and will primarily focus on developing and implementing an audience-centric content and social strategy that supports our business objectives, leading the development of content initiatives in all forms to build awareness, consideration and preference for the NBA products and services.

Major Responsibilities

  • Develops a framework to create, commission and / or acquire interesting, innovative, funny and relevant content that will connect our brand with target groups around Europe across channels.
  • Leads content development and manages execution of new ideas leveraging internal and external resources
  • Understands the principals of optimizing content for search, user experience and content curation across all publishing channels
  • Ensures ongoing measurement of content performance (acquisition, engagement, and conversion) and reports on effectiveness
  • Hires, develops, leads, and inspires a team of internal and external content creators to achieve the stated goals
  • Spearheads, manages, and oversees social partnerships both within NBA and the sports industry as well as with like-minded brands

Required Skills/Knowledge

  • Passion for all forms of Sports entertainment, digital distribution, and the implementation of new business / digital models
  • Excellent knowledge of content publishing, editing and production software and equipment
  • Ability to plan and manage at both strategic and operational levels
  • Fluency in English and other European language is a plus
  • Proficient in Microsoft Word, Excel, and PowerPoint

Experience Required

  • Minimum of 12 of experience as a respected leader in multichannel content creation, ideally at a Tier 1 content organization in Europe or the U.S.
  • Experience creating compelling stories/messages for specific target demographics
  • Proven experience hitting key social KPIs: social engagement & audience traffic growth
  • Proven track record in building, growing and managing teams

Educational Background Required

  • Bachelor’s degree required
  • Master’s degree in Journalism, English, Marketing or related discipline. Master’s degree is a plus

JOB PURPOSE

To manage the commercial development of the Club’s Media, Content and Digital Rights programme.

To deliver substantial growth in revenue from the Club’s Media, Content and Digital Rights programme.

To ensure that the Club’s Media, Content and Digital Rights deliver maximum value for the broader commercial business in addition to directly attributable revenue.

Key Responsibilities

  • Develop, mobilize and execute a business plan for the ongoing and future commercial development of the Club’s media, content and digital rights.
  • Research and identify potential media, content and digital partners for the Club, and build and cultivate relationships with such potential partners.
  • Alongside the Head of Partnership Development and Head of Legal, negotiate and execute commercial agreements with prospective partners.
  • Manage the Club’s partnerships with its media, content and digital partners ensuring both the Club and our partners derive maximum value.
  • Work closely with internal departments to operationally deliver and execute key aspects of such partnerships (e.g. content production and distribution).
  • Manage the Club’s relationships with its retained sales agencies and other relevant third parties that support the Club’s commercial activities.
  • Work closely with internal departments to ensure the Club is deriving maximizing value from all available media rights (e.g. Partnerships, Content).
  • Develop, maintain, manage and communicate a comprehensive understanding of all media rights available to the Club from competition bodies.
  • Be a key representative for the Club in external forums on media rights (e.g. Premier League, UEFA, The Football Association, English Football League).
  • Take the lead on the assessment, development and, as required, mobilization of new commercial media and content opportunities for the Club.
  • Stay on top of industry innovations and trends to ensure the Club delivers to the highest standards and stays at the forefront of industry innovation.
  • Manage, monitor and drive KPIs to ensure the Club meets and exceeds its financial targets.

CEO – British Weight Lifting

As the UK’s recognised National Governing Body for Olympic weightlifting and para-powerlifting, British Weight Lifting’s (BWL) role is to inspire a nation of weightlifters and para-powerlifters through exceptional leadership and expertise. The organisation is responsible for the growth and success of weightlifting and para-powerlifting at every level. Their work sees them support a network of weightlifting bodies, clubs and gyms across the UK, as well as the thousands of people actively involved in Olympic and Paralympic weightlifting disciplines. Key responsibilities of the CEO role include:

  • Providing leadership and development of all areas of the organisation, which includes performance, operations and participation growth of all staff, volunteers and the general membership 
  • Establishing an annual operating plan through which the strategic objectives of BWL may be delivered 
  • Developing the uplift in sustainable commercial revenue, derived from the education and training enterprise, sponsorship, membership growth, mass participation initiatives, merchandise sales and streaming 
  • Being the lead spokesperson and ambassador for BWL in developing and sustaining the relationship of BWL with stakeholders in the UK and with international governing bodies 
  • Creating and driving a World Class environment and medal winning culture across the whole performance programme, through the building of strong relationships with all stakeholders including Home Country Associations, other related associations, clubs and athletes 

Candidates for the position should be able see the potential and opportunity for the growth of the sport and how the national governing body can lead and support in these areas. An understanding of the requirements of the key funders; UK Sport and Sport England is important. You will need to be innovative and commercially astute, understanding how to successfully diversify revenue and maximise the opportunity of the programmes in place. You will also require a general understanding of elite performance and how to provide the overarching support to an Olympic programme.
