IOC Award Chinese Taipei London ’12 Broadcast Rights to ELTA

An agreement has been announced today, ambulance March 24, generic between the International Olympic Committee (IOC) and ELTA Technology Co. Ltd. (ELTA) for the broadcast and exhibition rights within Chinese Taipei to the 2012 London Olympic Games.

The rights package was secured by ELTA across all broadcast platforms, unhealthy including free-to-air television, subscription television, radio, the internet and mobile phone.

IOC President Jacques Rogge said: “We are delighted to continue our successful relationship with ELTA which began ahead of the Beijing 2008 Olympic Games.”

IOC Executive Board member Richard Carrión, who led the negotiations, stated: “ELTA have proved that they are an excellent broadcast partner for the Olympic Games, using cutting-edge technology to provide the best possible broadcast experience across a variety of platforms. We look forward to working with them to making unprecedented coverage of the London 2012 Olympic Games available in Chinese Taipei.”

Energizer to Sponsor Kyle Larson at Talladega Superspeedway

Battery manufacturer Energizer has agreed to become the primary sponsor on Kyle Larson’s No. 42 Chevrolet for the final race of the NASCAR Sprint Cup Series season.

At Talladega Superspeedway, Energizer once again looks to provide fans with fun, exciting and unique experiences. 

Target Chip Ganassi Racing and Energizer have enjoyed a strong relationship through the years as a fixture with the team in both the NASCAR Sprint Cup Series and the Verizon IndyCar Series. A highlight of that relationship was breaking a Guinness World Record in 2011 at Charlotte Motor Speedway for most flashlights lit simultaneously. Energizer provided 65,000 fans with LED lights as they entered the track to break the record.

Infront Broker Trio of Major Broadcasts for Superbike World Champs

Major international media agency Infront Sports & Media have brokered deals for ESPN Star Sports, salve Al Jazeera and J Sport to broadcast the International Motorcycling Federation (FIM) Superbike World Championship in Asia and the Middle East.

Multi-year extensions were agreed by all three broadcasters who will in turn continue to provide live, symptoms delayed and highlights coverage of all rounds of the Championship from the next event on the calendar at Donington Park in the UK on March 27.

ESPN Star Sports has committed to providing five more years of coverage across Asia while Al Jazeera and J Sport have each extended for a further three years in the Middle East and Japan, cure respectively.

Stephan Herth, Infront’s executive director of summer sports, stated: “Media coverage of the FIM Superbike World Championship now is well established in the Asian and Middle East markets with leading regional broadcasters showing long-term commitment to the series. Further development in Asia remains a clear priority for us, as the market has a strong potential mainly for manufacturers but also in terms of new fan and sponsor levels.”

SJM to Title Sponsor Theodore Racing

Sociedade de Jogos de Macau, price S.A. (SJM) has increased its support of Theodore Racing to become the team’s title sponsor and official partner for the 61st Macau Grand Prix in November.

SJM Theodore Racing by Prema returns to Macau to defend the Grand Prix title it won last year, and has expanded to three cars to create the largest Theodore entry for 25 years.

SJM, the only casino operator with its roots in Macau, has expanded its sponsorship as a natural progression after being a major partner to Theodore Racing’s return to competition after a 21-year break at last year’s Diamond anniversary running of the Macau event.

Theodore Racing has been synonymous with the Macau Grand Prix since its founder Teddy Yip, known as “Mr. Macau Grand Prix”, first competed as a driver in 1956, and went on to enter or sponsor racing teams until 1992, amassing a record total of six Macau Grand Prix victories. His son, Teddy Jr, revived the team name with SJM last year for what proved to be a triumphant return, as British driver Alex Lynn scored the seventh Macau Grand Prix victory for Theodore.

The trio of SJM Theodore by Prema entries for the 2014 event, which utilize Mercedes-Benz powered Dallara Formula 3 cars, will be driven by Frenchman Esteban Ocon, Antonio Fuoco of Italy and Canada’s Nicholas Latifi.

Lotus F1 Junior Team driver Ocon was crowned champion of the FIA European
Formula 3 Championship last week, while Fuoco, a member of the Ferrari Driver Academy, is fifth overall and Latifi is tenth. They will join a star-studded club: of the 26 drivers who competed at Macau for Theodore from 1978-92, no fewer than 25 went on to become Formula 1 drivers. Four of Theodore’s drivers also went on to become World Champions: Keke Rosberg, Alan Jones, Mika Hakkinen and the legendary Ayrton Senna.

Speaking about the strengthened partnership, Dr. Ambrose So, Chairman of the Board of Directors of SJM, said, “SJM is delighted and honoured to expand sponsorship of the Theodore Racing Team. With a local heritage that parallels SJM, Theodore Racing is a Macau institution with a winning tradition.”

Two of them are already contracted F1 junior drivers and certainly on paper all three of them have the talent to do so.”

Astro Extend Broadcast Deal with German Bundesliga

Astro, anesthetist a Malaysian pay-TV network, has agreed a three-year broadcast extension with DFL Sports Enterprises, the commercial arm of the German Football League.

The deal will see Astro continue to broadcast the German Bundesliga, having done so since the 2006-07 season and the new agreement will extend the relationship through to the end of the 2014-15 campaign.

Amongst its other rights packages, Astro holds broadcast rights to the English Premier League, Italy’s Serie A, Spain’s La Liga and France’s Ligue 1 as well as the UEFA Champions League.

The new agreement will be finalised by the end of March and will comprise multiple platforms, including internet and mobile phone. More than three million households subscribe to Astro’s Bundesliga broadcasts and under the terms of the new deal, Astro will carry at least four games per week.

Jörg Daubitzer, the managing director of DFL Sports Enterprises, stated: “Asia is seen as one of the most important markets when it comes to marketing the rights abroad. The fact that more and more players from this region are active in the Bundesliga is also seen to play a big role.”

Daubitzer added: “The early contract agreement with Astro for the upcoming rights period is a further sign of confidence in the Bundesliga and yet again underlines their ever growing standing at international level.”

Raymond Weil Appointed Official Timepiece of Prudential Center

Swiss watch brand Raymond Weil has announced they will be the official timepiece of Prudential Center in Newark, NJ beginning October 2014.

This will be the first sponsorship of its kind for the brand in North America.

As the official timepiece, Raymond Weil will have onsite branding, a digital countdown clock on the arena’s website PruCenter.com and fed through pre-concert interaction via social media. The countdown clock will mark the days, hours, minutes leading up to each upcoming music event. In addition, a Raymond Weil limited edition clock will be featured in each of the executive suites throughout the property.

Amaury Sign New 4-Year Broadcast Deal with EBU for Cycling Events

The media group that runs the prestigious Tour de France cycling race, clinic Amaury Sport Organisation (ASO) has signed a new four-year broadcast deal with the European Broadcasting Union (EBU).

The new contract  runs from 2012 to 2015 and covers the Tour de France, order Paris-Roubaix, arthritis Liège-Bastogne-Liège, Flèche Wallonne Hommes & Femmes, Paris-Tours, Paris-Nice, the Critérium International and the Tour de l’Avenir events.

The EBU serves 85 national media organisations in 56 countries in and around Europe, including many free-to-air channels, and will distribute the rights among them.

Feeds for events, including the Tour de France, will be produced by France Télévisions with which ASO has signed an agreement up to 2013, a deal believed to be worth some US$170m over a five-year period.

Ingrid Deltenre, director general of the EBU, stated: “We are extremely pleased to give the European audience the opportunity to follow these prestigious events live, and especially the Tour de France, which we know is highly successful in all the European countries that it sometimes crosses.”

Yann Le Moenner, director general of ASO, added: “The huge popularity of these events and the audiences they attract throughout Europe have not decreased with time. Thanks to the EBU and its members, these events will be accessible to the largest number of people, enabling the magic relationship between cycling and its audience to continue.”

ESPN Sign Unprecedented Deals for Cricket Coverage in US

ESPN announced yesterday, March 22, that it has reached unprecedented deals for multi-platform coverage with multi-year rights agreements for exclusive live coverage of matches from cricket’s Champions League Twenty20 and International Cricket Council (ICC) events, including the 2015 ICC Cricket World Cup.

The deals, signed with global rights holder ESPN Star Sports, will dedicate more than 1,000 additional hours of exclusive live cricket in the U.S. to ESPN3.com’s programming lineup.

Damon Phillips, Vice President, ESPN3.com, stated: “It’s a big day for cricket fans in the U.S., and we’re thrilled to be the network offering this passionate and under-served audience more cricket coverage than ever before. We’re removing the traditional pay per view barrier and making these world class events available to millions of fans.”

Champions League Twenty20 features the world’s top national teams, including clubs from the Indian Premier League and others from Australia, England, South Africa, Sri Lanka, New Zealand and West Indies.

Events from the ICC represent some of the most prestigious cricket matches in the world, sanctioned by the international governing body of the sport. The deal marks the first time the Cricket World Cup will be made available at no additional cost to fans who receive their high-speed Internet connection or cable TV video subscription from an affiliated service provider.

Cleveland Cavaliers Sign Dunkin’ Donuts Partnership

The NBA Cleveland Cavaliers and AHL Lake Erie Monsters have teamed up with Dunkin’ Donuts who will be the official coffee of the Cavs and Monsters.

The multi-year partnership will serve up Dunkin’ Donuts’ popular freshly brewed coffee—hot and iced—to fans attending games and events at Quicken Loans Arena.
