Three Premier League Clubs Get Sure Deals

A trio of Premier League clubs have announced sponsorship deals with deodorant brand Sure. The brand – owned by British-Dutch corporation Unilever – has agreed deals with Chelsea, Everton and Southampton.

Sure will create regular social media content surrounding its three new partners, with the hashtag #NeverMoreSure being used.  As part of the content, fans will receive the chance to win match tickets for the football partners.

Sure will receive varying branding and marketing rights as part of their deals, with Chelsea’s Eden Hazard, Everton’s Ross Barkley, and Southampton’s Fraser Forster becoming Sure ambassadors. English midfielder Barkley will play a prominent role in a Sure advertising campaign later this year.

IAAF Announce Partnership with Asics

The International Association of Athletics Federations (IAAF) have announced that sportswear manufacturers Asics will be their new official supplier, order effective from January 1.

The announcement comes after the IAAF terminated its prior deal with Adidas ‘by mutual agreement’. The partnership between IAAF and Adidas began in 2008 and was initially due to end in 2019; however, cialis IAAF have ended their affiliation with the German corporation after eleven years.

Japanese corporation Asics will become an official partner to the IAAF, receiving branding at events and providing apparel to officials and volunteers.

The Asics deal will run for a minimum of three years, with IAAF president Sebastian Coe declaring the agreement ‘’a huge endorsement of a bright future for athletics.’’

Sir Lenny Henry to host the 2017 Lycamobile British Ethnic Diversity Sports Awards

It has been announced today that the 2017 Lycamobile British Ethnic Diversity Sports Awards [BEDSAs] will be hosted by Sir Lenny Henry on March 18th, at the Hilton Park Lane, London.

The awards, which are now in its third year, are organised by Sporting Equals, the national partner of Sport England and advisors to the Department of Culture Media and Sport. Sponsored by Lycamobile, the world’s largest mobile virtual network operator, the Awards are leading the way in recognising and celebrating sporting excellence within black and minority ethnic [BAME] communities.

Chelsea sign new kit deal with Nike

Chelsea FC have announced that they have signed a new kit deal with Nike, denture believed to be worth around £60m ($73m) a season until 2032. 

Chelsea’s current kit deal with Adidas ends next year, medstore ending six years earlier than intended. They have instead opted for the American sportswear company. The London club had to pay approximately £40m ($49m) to part ways early. 

They have claimed this signing is the “largest commercial deal in the club’s history”, as they are set to make £900m ($1b) from Nike over the course of the next 15 years.

Chelsea director Marina Granovska highlighted her excitement for the partnership, saying, “Like Chelsea, Nike is known around the world for its excellence and innovation and we look forward to working together in what is sure to be a successful partnership. We believe Nike will be able to support our growth into new markets as well as helping us maintain our place among the world’s elite football clubs” 

Trevor Edwards, President of the Nike Brand, added, “The partnership with Chelsea reinforces our leadership position in football. We are excited to help grow the club’s global reach, serving players and supporters with Nike innovation and design.”

Eurosport announce ISA World Championship highlights for Asia Pacific

The International Surfing Association have announce an international broadcast partnership with Eurosport Asia Pacific to broadcast highlights of the ISA World Championships in 2016.

Eurosport Asia Pacific will broadcast highlights of all four ISA World Championship events this year in 47 countries, link with the 2016 VISSLA ISA World Junior Surfing Championship which was held in the Azores, medic Portugal, from 17-25 September, airing on Thursday across the region.

The multi-territory platform will also show the 2016 INS ISA World Surfing Games from last August in Costa Rica, the 2016 Fiji ISA Stand-Up Paddle (SUP) and Paddleboard World Championship which will take place at Cloudbreak, Fiji, from 12-20 November and the 2016Stance ISA World Adaptive Surfing Championship which will take place in La Jolla, USA, from 8-11 December.

In June 2015, Discovery Communications and the International Olympic Committee signed an agreement that will give Eurosport exclusive television and multi-platform broadcast for 50 countries and territories in Europe for the next four Olympic Games, including the Winter Olympics in Pyeonchang 2018 and Beijing 2022.

EXCLUSIVE: World Rugby CEO “confident” of Olympic return

The CEO of World Rugby has told iSportconnect that he is “confident” rugby sevens can retain a place in the Olympic Games after what he declared a successful inaugural competition at Rio 2016.

Rugby returned the Olympic fold this year in its shortened sevens format after a 92-year absence, pills cheap and Brett Gosper spoke to iSportconnect after the competition finished at Rio’s Deodoro Stadium last week. Australia won gold in the women’s event and Fiji won their first ever Olympic medal by triumphing in the men’s edition.

Having witnessed history being made in the first South American Games, health Gosper said that World Rugby was very pleased with how the competition went in Rio despite a few early concerns.

“From our standpoint, it was a very successful event,” Gosper told iSportconnect. “We had pretty full stadia, spectacular rugby, a good storyline in how the results turned out and we were very pleased with the media reaction. There was lots of positive articles and positive interactions on social media.

“So judging it on all that criteria, it was a very successful Games.”

Brazil not being a traditional rugby nation – the national side has never qualified for a rugby world cup – Gosper did admit that there were some early concerns about the local attitude towards the competition, especially when the first two days of the women’s competition saw plenty of empty seats.

He said: “The first two days were a little soft, I think we were around 65 per cent capacity on day two. But it did pick up for the last four days where we were around 85-95 per cent full. So we were in comparatively good shape in regards to other sports.”

Gosper’s last point refers to the number of empty seats that have been seen across most of the venues at the Games so far, even for high profile events such as athletics. Sometimes this has been down to the insistence of the Rio 2016 organizing committee upon selling tickets at fixed prices right up until the last minute.

On other occasions, logistical problems have come into play including at the Deodoro where Gosper admits there were transport issues and the security system failed on the first days providing problems for people getting into the venue.

“There were teething problems,” he said. “But they were ironed out pretty quickly. It was a story of the first couple of days but then things seemed to find their rhythm.”

The World Rugby executive, who helped oversee the governing body’s rebranding in 2014, added that the rugby family was very pleased with the stadium provided.

In four years’ time though in Tokyo there will be an even bigger stadium to fill, and a bigger opportunity for rugby to share more of the limelight at the Games.

The Tokyo Olympics will take place a year after Japan plays host to the 2019 Rugby World Cup. The venue proposed for rugby sevens is the 45,000-capacity Ajinomoto Stadium and with the country already a traditional rugby nation Gosper is hopeful Rio and Tokyo success can lead on to further Olympic rugby competitions.

Gosper said: “The venue proposed is a 45,000-seater, so that’s a lot! We have to do our review from Rio and see if we’re happy with six days of competition with two sessions a day. Assuming it’s a similar format, we’d have to get 90,000 in every day over six days, which is ambitious but doable.”

On rugby’s future, to be decided along with all other Olympic sports at the IOC session in Lima next year, Gosper said: “We’re confident rugby has demonstrated a great contribution to the Olympic movement and so we’re confident of retaining a place in the Games.”

WADA come under fire at IOC session

The World Anti Doping Agency, WADA, came under sustained criticism on the first day of the 129th IOC Session in Rio.

Thomas Bach, the IOC President, looked to move blame for the Russian doping scandal from the IOC to WADA.

“It is not the IOC that is responsible for the accreditation and supervision of anti-doping laboratories,” he said. “It is not the IOC which can be held responsible for alleged corruption between the leadership of an international federation and a national member federation to cover up doping.

“The IOC has no authority to declare any organization non-compliant with the WADA code. The IOC has no authority over the testing program of athletes outside the Olympic Games. The IOC has no authority to follow up on information about the failings of the testing system.”

Several high profile IOC members then also criticised WADA, in what must have been a very uncomfortable two hours for its President Sir Craig Reedie, who sat next to Bach at the session.

Reedie only spoke at the end of the debate to say that he would respond the following day.

The other notable incident was Russian Olympic Committee President Alexander Zhukov lashing out, at what he called a political campaign against Russia, and “discrimination” against clean athletes not connected to doping.

“I urge you to resist this unprecedented pressure that is now on the entire Olympic movement and not to let this pressure to split the entire Olympic family,” he said.

Zhukov took aim at the IAAF for banning Russia’s track and field team and also blamed WADA, saying that they recommended a complete ban, but it was also them who supervised, and accredited, Russia’s anti-doping agency.

“Why should WADA not be responsible for the violations made by the anti-doping labs it has accredited?” he questioned.

At the end of the session there was a near unanimous show of support for the executive board’s decision to allow Russia to compete, under the conditions the IOC laid out.

FIFA appoint new Audit and Compliance Chairman

FIFA have appointed Tomaž Vesel of Slovenia as the independent chairperson of FIFA’s Audit and Compliance Committee until the 67th FIFA Congress, with immediate effect.

Vesel currently serves as President of the Court of Auditors in Slovenia having been elected by the National Assembly of the Republic of Slovenia in 2013.

The Court of Auditors is the highest body for supervising state accounts, the state budget and all public spending in Slovenia – an EU member state since 2004.

In addition to his work in Slovenia, Vesel has worked with numerous European governments and the OECD as an expert adviser, and is an active member of the International Organisation of Supreme Audit Organisations and the European Organisation of Supreme Audit Organisations. 

“The appointment of Mr Vesel as independent chairperson of FIFA’s Audit and Compliance Committee is an important development in the ongoing effort to strengthen FIFA’s governance and compliance systems,” said FIFA President, Gianni Infantino.

“This is a vital role within the organisation and Mr Vesel’s audit expertise and international experience will help reassure stakeholders and restore trust in FIFA.”

Upon accepting the role, Mr Vesel said “I am delighted to be joining FIFA as the independent chairperson of the Audit and Compliance Committee. As a global institution that governs the world’s most popular sport, FIFA’s work has an expansive reach and tremendous impact. I look forward to working with FIFA to ensure that it operates in accordance with international standards and continues down the path of good governance that has been set out in the reforms.”
