The Premier League has invited interested parties the Invitation to Tender (ITT) for its live audio visual rights spanning seasons 2013/14 – 2015/16 for Asia and Australasia.

Crystal Palace Chief Joins Football League Board

Crystal Palace Chief Executive, order Phil Alexander has been elected to the Board of The Football League.

Alexander, viagra 49, sale ed joins Shaun Harvey (Leeds United) and Keith Lamb (Middlesbrough) as the Championship representatives on the Board and replaces Derby County Chief Executive, Tom Glick who is moving to a new role with Premier League Champions Manchester City.

Alexander began his career in football as a player, captaining England at Under-18 level and playing professionally with Norwich City. This was followed by a spell in American Football as a kicker for the London Monarchs, winning the World Bowl in front of 75,000 fans at Wembley Stadium. He joined the administration side of the game with Swindon Town in 1993 during the Robins most recent spell in the top flight, before moving to Crystal Palace in 1996.

Football League Chairman, Greg Clarke said: “Phil is an excellent addition to The Football League Board, he brings with him a wealth of experience and knowledge about our game. I look forward to him making a positive contribution to our competition.”

Phil Alexander added: “I am delighted at being voted to the Football League Board. It is an honour for me personally and Crystal Palace FC and I look forward to working with the Board and making a difference.”

Deloitte tackles “Football and Finance” at GSFB 2012

MotoGP Set to be Seen Free-to-Air in New Zealand after Sommet Sports TV Broadcast Deal

MotoGP is set to be free-to-air in New Zealand Sommet Sports TV snatched the broadcasting rights from Sky.

The new Freeview outfit, whose channel is provisionally up and running but set to launch officially in 10 days, will offer live coverage of the 2013 MotoGP series and highlights programmes.

The development confirms a second sporting asset has been wrestled from Sky Television, 16 days after the subscription giant dramatically lost the New Zealand broadcast rights for the English Premier League football to previously unknown group Coliseum Sports Media.

Having previously dominated New Zealand’s sport broadcast market, Sky’s share price plunged 6.2 per cent off the back of the football loss.

Sky had been publicly struggling to reach a new MotoGP deal with commercial rights holder Dorna Sports for months, with fans already missing out on the first seven stages of 2013’s 18-round series.

Mark Cathie, general manager of Sommet Sports, which came second to Coliseum in the Premier League race, said his organisation had stepped in on MotoGP, confirming New Zealanders would now be able to access motorcycling’s top championship and without subscription TV.

“This announcement will be a relief to many, following uncertainty about the future of MotoGP coverage in New Zealand,” Cathie said.

“MotoGP has some of the most diehard sports fans in New Zealand and we’ll be pulling out all the stops to make sure they’re not disappointed.”

Manel Arroyo, Dorna’s Managing Director Media Area said: “We look forward to starting our new cooperation with Sommet Sports at such an exciting point in the Championship. After working hard over the past few months, we are very pleased to have secured this agreement which will mean that MotoGP fans in New Zealand will be able to watch the remainder of the 2013 season live on free-to-air television.”

MLS Seeking New York Franchise for 2016

Major League Soccer are looking into identifying an owner for a New York City expansion team next year, cialis with an eye on the club taking the field at a new stadium in Queens in 2016.

Speaking to reporters this week in Manhattan, search MLS president Mark Abbott said, impotent “This is our priority in terms of our next expansion, which will be our 20th team. We haven’t made a determination about the timeline for expansion beyond that.”

Regarding construction of a league-funded 25,000-seat stadium in Flushing Meadows-Corona Park, Abbott said, “I don’t see any particular hurdles. … While there will undoubtedly be bumps in terms of construction and other things that can arise, we’re very confident in our ability to complete the project.”

Stadium opponents have argued that the facility will require the use of an unacceptable amount of park land. Abbott said Wednesday that the acre of “green space” required to build the stadium will be replaced “elsewhere,” along with “whatever parkland is taken up by the stadium.” In addition, the league has promised to refurbish nine community soccer fields expected to be impacted by the construction.

“What we believe is that because of the economic development we’re bringing, by making the park a better park and by bringing a game that the neighborhood and community loves, and by being part of that neighborhood and community, there will be strong support for the project,” Abbott said. “We’re very optimistic about how that process will work.”

Construction would start in 2014. MLS executives have said repeatedly that the league has been in contact with a number of potential owners for the New York City team and that the expansion fee could be as high as $100 million. The New York Cosmos, who will play in the second-tier NASL next season, are among the groups vying to become the 20th MLS club.

Derek Shaw Appointed Managing Director of Blackburn Rovers

Former Preston North End Chairman Derek Shaw has been appointed the new managing director of Blackburn Rovers.

Shaw a respected Lancashire businessman, will take up his new role with immediate effect.

“The owners let it be known they were looking for somebody who had some knowledge of the English game,” the 54-year-old Shaw told BBC Radio Lancashire.

“I’ve been involved for 20-plus years at Preston and I’ve seen everything. One thing led to another and now we’ve made the announcement.”

Paul Agnew, who became general manager earlier this month, has had his role upgraded to operations director.

Shaw added that he has yet to meet personally with owners Venky’s.

“I had intended flying out to Switzerland where they had some business, but unfortunately that was cancelled,” said Shaw. 
“I’ve spent hours on the telephone and long periods on video conferencing.

“I’ve had long discussions with Mrs Desai (of Venky’s) and she wants to get things going at the club. She’s backing the manager (Steve Kean).

“A lot of things haven’t gone well at all in the last 18 months but I hope that, with myself and Paul’s involvement, we can start improving things.”

Mrs Anuradha Desai, of Rovers owners Venky’s, added: “We have every confidence in Derek and believe he can play a major role in bringing about a positive change for the club.

“We are keen to build up a good image for BRFC among the fans, media and general populace and we feel sure that Derek and Paul can work in close cooperation to achieve this. It is a new start, a new era and we are very excited.”

ABU Extends Global Reach of Commonwealth Games with Glasgow 2014 Broadcasting Deal

Glasgow 2014 has announced today a broadcast partnership with Asia Broadcasting Union (ABU) to air the Commonwealth Games.

As well as providing free-to-air coverage to the Commonwealth nations of Brunei Darussalam, medstore Malaysia, Singapore and Mauritius, ABU will showcase the Games to territories outside of the Commonwealth further broadening the opportunity to savour the world-class sporting action. 

Such non-Commonwealth territories include Cambodia, Hong Kong, Indonesia, Iran, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Laos, Macau, Mongolia, Myanmar, North Korea, Philippines, Taiwan, Thailand, Timo Leste, Turkmenistan, Uzbekistan and Vietnam. 

This latest agreement complements the existing broadcast deals for the Games, in particular with TAJ Television(Indian subcontinent) and SuperSport (Sub-Saharan African rights), and provides further proof of the strong appeal to the world’s broadcasters of Glasgow 2014. 

Glasgow 2014 will be the biggest multi-sport event Scotland has ever hosted and around 4,500 athletes from 71 nations and territories will take part in the Games with 17 sports on show across the 11 days of competition. 

The sale of broadcast right packages worldwide is a part of Glasgow 2014’s commercial programme which aims to raise around £100million in revenue through licensing, merchandise and ticketing.

Announcing the agreement with ABU, Glasgow 2014’s Chief Executive David Grevemberg said: “We are delighted that the excitement of the Games will reach so many millions of people, including now a number of countries who are outside of the Commonwealth, but whose public will appreciate the opportunity to sample world-class sport across a range of events. 

The spectacle and wonder of the Glasgow 2014 Commonwealth Games has the ability to inspire tens of millions of young people worldwide and the ABU will help us to share globally the sporting achievements of the thousands of great athletes coming to compete in Scotland.” 

ABU Secretary – General, Dr. Javad Mottaghi  said: “The ABU has had a long association with the Commonwealth Games, and is delighted to continue that association with Glasgow 2014. 

“The ABU will deliver a multi-platform coverage that will expand the scope and reach of the Commonwealth Games throughout Asia creating new audiences in new countries.

Silvio Berlusconi Linked with Selling AC Milan Stake

AC Milan President, apoplectic Silvio Berlusconi is reportedly considering selling a 30 per cent stake in the club to the Qatar Investment Authority.

The former Italian prime minister has owned AC Milan for the last 26 years but is willing to sell a third of the club for 250 million euros, Gazzetta said.

The deal could also include aspects involving Berlusconi’s media empire and the Qatari-run Al-Jazeera network.

The Qatar Investment Authority is Qatar’s sovereign wealth fund.

If the sale were to go ahead, it would be the latest foray into international sport for the Qataris, who recently bought out French Ligue 1 outfit Paris Saint-Germain.

WWE Appoint Casey Collins as EVP of Consumer Products

WWE today announced the appointment of Casey Collins as Executive Vice President, anabolics Consumer Products.

Collins will oversee WWE Global Licensing, here Home Entertainment and Publishing. He will report directly to WWE Chairman and CEO Vince McMahon.

Prior to joining WWE, prescription Collins was Executive Vice President, Global Licensing & Entertainment at MGA Entertainment, where he oversaw the entertainment, consumer products, retail development and promotions divisions. Before joining MGA Entertainment, Collins spent 10 years at Lucasfilm Ltd., where he was responsible for the management of Lucasfilm’s domestic and international licensing and retail merchandise programs.

Collins also spent time as Director of Worldwide Licensing & Motorsports at World Championship Wrestling, Inc. (WCW), where he built and managed WCW’s worldwide consumer products program. He holds a Bachelor of Science degree in International Business from Florida State University and did post graduate work at Kellogg School of Management at Northwestern University.

BBC to Adopt 3D Trials for Selected Wimbledon Matches

The BBC are set to continue their trials with 3D production and distribution by announcing today that selected Wimbledon matches in this year’s championship will be broadcast in 3D across UK homes.

The free-to-air 3D coverage will be available to those with access to a 3D TV set and to the BBC’s HD Red Button service. This is one of a small number of 3D TV editorial experiments the BBC is currently undertaking, which has also included selected coverage from Wimbledon 2012 and the London 2012 Olympic Games.

Kim Shillinglaw, Head of BBC 3D, said: “We’re delighted to provide live 3D coverage from the biggest matches of this year’s Wimbledon. Major UK sporting events are a big part of our trials with 3D content and this allows us to build on our work from previous Wimbledon Championships and the London 2012 Olympics.”

Mick Desmond, Commercial Director of the All England Club, added: “We are always looking at ways to improve the Wimbledon experience and the 3D TV trials will allow us to do that by exploring the boundaries of live sporting television.”
