Organisers of the Rio 2016 Olympics and Brazilian higher learning institution Estácio have signed a partnership that will allow the company to train 120, sales 000 workers ahead of the prestigious event.

The learning modules, held between February and July 2016, will last between four and twelve hours, with Rio 2016-focused topics such as ‘Service Excellence’ and ‘Leadership’ on the agenda. The bulk of the technical training will involve staff at the Games venues, and courses will be offered face to face, online and in a combination of the two, some being hosted by Estácio and others by the Organising Committee itself, depending on the subject.

Estácio will also use its infrastructure in ten cities across Brazil as registration centres for volunteers. Applications for the Rio 2016 Volunteer Programme will begin on August 28 with the selection phase held between February 2015 and May 2016.

Fifty swim-run events from across the United States comprise the third annual Splash & Dash Youth Aquathlon Series, which runs from March through November 2014.

BSA will also develop a co-branded “SCOUTStrong Fit · Fuel · Fun” patch to be distributed to all series participants. The USA Triathlon Splash-and-Dash-in-a-box program, which outlines how to host a youth aquathlon, may also be distributed to BSA Local Councils for use in summer youth camps.

Omar Khan, owner of Bradford Bulls, has released some of the pressure on the Super League team by releasing money from his property portfolio to keep the English club funded

Earlier this week it was revealed that the Bulls players had not been paid for July but Khan denied the club were close to entering administration for the second time in a year.

He did admit the club had a “temporary funding issue” but has now taken action to address the problem and staff are expected to be paid on 8 August.

A statement on the Bull website read: “Owner Omar Khan has released a substantial amount of money from his property portfolio to enable the club to move forward over the next 18 months.”

Khan added: “I’m releasing equity in my properties and putting the money into the club. I am doing this for the club and the city of Bradford.

“It is a place I love, it is my heritage, it is the city I’ve been brought up in. This is our city and our club.”

Bulls general manager Ryan Whitcut said: “The funding issue is to cover us for the rest of this year and next, so there will be no more issues.”

Bradford spent two months in administration last year before their takeover by Khan and local MP Gerry Sutcliffe.

But the RFL are confident that the Bulls are not heading for financial meltdown again.

Their director of licensing and standards Blake Solly said: “This financial injection will give the Bulls funding that is much needed and will provide them with reserves of cash that gives a platform to build on.

“We are comfortable with their position and that this money will drop into place to ensure players and staff are paid on or before 8 August.”

British Basketball League (BBL) team Leicester Riders may have a new arena for next season as proposals for a new 2,000-seat amphitheater were made.

The £2.5 million stadium will be used as a link-up between the Riders, Leicestershire County Cricket Club and Leicester College.

The lease on the team’s current home ends at the end of the season, Riders director Kevin Routledge said: “This venue is an absolute must for us, so we are determined to make sure it happens.

“We are going to deliver this venue, there are no ifs or buts about it, we will be building this venue here at Grace Road this year. We have to deliver it, it is crucial for the future of Leicester Riders.”
