USOC Given Assurances Over Trump Ban

January 31, 2017

The United States Olympic Committee (USOC) has said it has received assurances from the US government that the recent travel ban will not affect athletes visiting the country for athletic events. President Donald Trump passed an executive order on Friday which banned immigration from Iraq, Iran, Syria, Libya, Somalia, Sudan and Yemen and temporarily halted the entry of refugees.

The USOC have revealed that the US government has indicated a willingness to work with them in order to allow for athletes of all countries to travel to the country for sporting events.

Several significant international sporting events are scheduled to take place in the United States this year, with the country also bidding to host the 2024 Olympic and Paralympic Games. The International Olympic Committe (IOC) will select a host nation in September, with Paris and Budapest also bidding to host.
