Sport apparel company Under Armour have signed an endorsement deal with rising basketball star Kemba Walker, despite the player having never played a National Basketball League (NBA) game, and with the league in lockout.

This year’s number nine draft pick joined the Charlotte Bobcats, owned by basketball legend Michael Jordon, after a national title winning season with the University of Connecticut.

Walker suggested that the chance to feature heavily in Under Armour’s campaigns was a crucial factor in the deal.

“Under Armour was just a perfect fit,” said Walker, who signed a multi-year deal with the company. “They love what they do, and I love what I do. I like starting from the ground up, and that’s just how Under Armour is. Me, Brandon [Jennings], Cam [Newton], Julio Jones and the rest of the guys, we’re gonna try our best to build it up.” [Being one of the key figures] is the reason why I chose Under Armour. If I would’ve went anywhere else, I definitely would’ve gotten lost.”
