UIPM to Launch Mixed Relay World Cup Series

December 12, 2012

The International Union of Modern Pentathlon (UIPM) have revealed the launch of it’s latest addition to it’s event calendar, the Mixed Relay World Cup Series which will make its debut in 2013.

The Modern Pentathlon mixed relay works by one man and one women from the same country competing in tandem.

This Mixed Relay World Cup Series, is a result of the immense interest that the athletes favorite discipline has created in the media, in the past 3 years.

The mixed relay made its debut on the senior circuit at the 2010 World Championships after its successful premier at the 2010 Youth Olympic Games and has been a regular fixture at all World Championships since.

UIPM hopes, that the event will keep on growing and not only be a medal event at the Youth Olympic Games, like it was at 2010 and will be at Nanjing 2014, but a medal at the 2016 Rio de Janeiro Olympic Games as well.

“UIPM is thrilled about this new concept in 2013. Everyone loves the mixed relay, so hopefully we will have the mixed relay in the program for the Rio 2016. It shows how a man and women can work together, learn off each other for the best of their nation” stated UIPM President Dr h.c. Klaus Schormann.
