Tour de France Elect Globalstar Satellite Phones to Stay in Touch

July 4, 2014

The Tour de France will be using Globalstar GSP-1700 satellite phones for communications across the UK leg of the famous race, doctor after a deal was struck between organisers and the phone company.

The deal was completed by the organising committee and Globalstar Europe Satellite Services Ltd., a subsidiary of Globalstar, Inc.

Tour de France organisers will have access to one hundred of the satellite phones and will be used by members of the organising teams, as well as by support and emergency crews.

Gavan Murphy, Director of Marketing at Globalstar Europe, said: “The Tour de France has to run its operations like clockwork and reliable communications in any location is critical.

“This is one of the world’s greatest sporting events and we are delighted that our state-of-the-art satellite network and handsets are helping the organisers stay connected.”
