Time Warner Cable to Broadcast Los Angeles & San Diego High School Sports Events
March 8, 2012
Time Warner Cable and the Los Angeles City and San Diego Sections of the California Interscholastic Federation (CIF) have announced that they have entered into a 5-year agreement for Time Warner Cable to become the official content distributor of all Los Angeles City and San Diego high school sporting events beginning with the 2012 – 2013 season.
The deal, allergist supplemental to the landmark 2011, 15-year agreement for distribution rights to all CIF Regional and State Championship games, gives Time Warner Cable rights to distribute all LA City and San Diego Section high schools sports programming for games and matches through cable television, internet and mobile platforms.
The CIF has grown to become one of the largest youth sports organizations in the nation and has a proud heritage of providing equitable athletic competition for more than 1,500 high schools in California. The Los Angeles City Section includes all Los Angeles Unified School District schools and the San Diego Section includes all schools in San Diego County. Through this new relationship, Time Warner Cable brings additional elements to the overall high school athletic experience benefiting more than 757,000 student athletes involved in CIF.
“We are thrilled to begin this relationship between the CIF Los Angeles City Section and Time Warner Cable,” said Los Angeles City Section Commissioner Barbara Fiege. “We look forward to showcasing our student athletes, and providing this great opportunity for their parents, schools and communities.”
“The San Diego Section is very excited about the agreement with Time Warner Cable,” said CIF San Diego Section Commissioner Jerry Schniepp.” The exposure this will give to our student-athletes and schools will be very positive and we’re looking forward to working with Time Warner.”
Time Warner Cable’s CIF sports programming will feature a variety of sports, including coverage of boys and girls competitions, as well as profile pieces on student-athletes and coaches.
“As the largest cable provider in Southern California, Time Warner Cable is extremely supportive of local high school sports. We commend the CIF for providing opportunities to our youth, developing future leaders and creating stronger communities both on and off the field,” said Barry Rosenblum, Time Warner Cable’s Senior Vice President, News and Local Programming. “Our new agreement with CIF will provide local high school sports fans a myriad of opportunities to connect with their favorite local teams, players and coaches. We are thrilled to have the privilege of covering our hometown heroes.”
In addition to full length High School game coverage, Time Warner Cable’s Local Programming Channel SoCal 101 will feature weekly high school sports programming. Varsity Round-Up, a roundtable analysis and preview of the top games of the week, airs on Wednesdays at 7:00 PM, along with other seasonal interactive call-in shows that feature up-to date scores, highlights, interviews and more.
Select games and other content from the CIF, and the LA City and San Diego Sections, are also expected to be available on Time Warner Cable Sports’ new Los Angeles based English and Spanish language Regional Sports Networks, which will launch in 2012.
