Streamworks Appoints Nigel Rushman to Advisory Board
October 7, 2013
Nigel Rushman, founder of global sports events and consulting company Rushmans has been appointed to the board of live streaming specialist Streamworks, signalling the opening of a major assault on the international digital sports market.
Rushman has worked on more than 500 events in 30 countries during more than 30 years in the sports sector and was a key member of the team that led Qatar’s successful bid for the FIFA 2022 World Cup Finals.
He has been appointed to spearhead the campaign to bring Streamworks’ industry-defining technology to the global sportscasting industry. Capitalising on the broadcasting sector’s history of failure when it comes to live-streaming events, Rushman will use his experience of turning major sporting occasions into profit making enterprises to introduce a viable solution to a struggling market.
“Let’s make no mistake about it: with only a very few exceptions, traditional broadcasters’ attempts to introduce live streaming of major events has been characterised by incompetence and abject failure. While demand from consumers continues to escalate, embarrassing farragoes like NBC’s miserable online coverage of the 2012 London Olympics remain typical of the low grade experience on offer to the global audience,” said Ray Mia, Streamworks’ Founder and CEO.
“What’s needed here isn’t a piecemeal solution or incremental improvements to the lacklustre technology currently being employed by these operations – what’s needed is a revolution driven by people and companies that are actually capable of making things happen. In that scenario, blending our undisputed expertise with Nigel’s experience as a big hitter in the world of live events is a no-brainer.”
Nigel Rushman commented: “In the global entertainment era demand for access to live sport from around the world continues to escalate, yet the majority of streaming efforts fall far short of the experience consumers demand. Streamworks’ proven high quality streaming technology is destined to play a central role in the commercial future of such events, and I’m excited to be part of it.”
