Spanish Prime Minister Backs Olympic Bid

March 20, 2013

Mariano Rajoy, the Spanish Prime Minister, has voiced his support for Madrid’s bid to host the 2020 Olympic Games.

Speaking at the beginning of the IOC’s visit to Madrid, Rajoy said: “I wanted to be here, at the beginning of this evaluation, to show the government’s full support so Madrid can be chosen to host the Olympic and Paralympic games in 2020.

“What I have told the members of the IOC is something that you all know very well.

“We are ready and willing to organise the Olympic Games. We would do it proudly and with the absolute conviction that with the people’s support it would be a success for Madrid, Spain and the Olympic movement in general.”

The IOC’s four day visit to the Spanish capital concludes on 21 March.
