Several Countries Express Commonwealth Interest

March 16, 2017

Melbourne and Perth have both signalled their interest in taking the 2022 Commonwealth Games to Australia, while Malaysia and India have said they are considering their options in the wake of hosting rights being removed from Durban.

Several prominent English cities have already indicated a strong interest in the competition, after Durban was stripped of hosting rights on Monday.

Australia are hosting the 2018 event, but both Melbourne and Perth have indicated a willingness to take on the following edition. Both cities would require state government approval if they were to formally bid for the competition.

The respective Olympic councils of Malaysia and India have both also indicated a willingness to hold the Games. Both countries have previously served as hosts.
