Overview:
The NBA is looking for a Senior Manager – Business Development for their Spanish office based in Madrid. This position will play a key role in the marketing partnership sales process for the NBA in Spain, pharm both in terms of national partnerships and multi-market partner deals with brands headquartered in Spain. The focus will be on new partner development – prospecting, pitching, negotiating and securing new marketing partners. The position will report to the MD of the Spain office and work closely with the Business Development team in the London office, which will involve regular travel to London.
Key Responsibilities
- Develop and implement the sales strategy for the Spanish market as part of the overall EMEA new business strategy.
- Consult with both multinational and national companies to determine their marketing objectives and create integrated marketing partnerships/programmes that will meet these objectives (IP, media, promotional, and event-based assets).
- Engage with potential partners at a senior decision-making level.
- Engage with sports marketing agencies representing potential NBA partner brands.
- Target, pitch and sell tailored NBA partnerships to identified target brands.
- Maintain an understanding of the sales and marketing activities of prospective clients, as well as the strategic direction of their business, markets and competitors.
- Maintain a strong understanding of advertising, marketing channels and technologies in order to understand potential client solutions.
- Be creative to adapt current marketing programs to keep up to date with market changes and also create new initiatives to suit market needs.
- Work with the other members of the Business Development team on the preparation of sales presentations, deal memo’s/summaries and other relevant documents.
Essential:
- Successful track record in sales within an international business.
- Track record of securing sponsorship contracts for rights holders in sports.
- Strong understanding of the sponsorship market and a network of relationships across all sectors of the sponsorship landscape.
- Experience in technology and digital advertising in sports is preferred.
- High level connectivity – client side and sponsorship community in general.
- Ability to develop creative solutions which will meet the objectives of prospective marketing partners.
- Business knowledge – being up to date with business trends across various markets and industry sectors.
- International thinker and operator – someone who is appreciative of other cultures and business practices.
- Strategic thinker – able to shape, develop and execute the strategy for a diverse region.
- Strong negotiation skills, adept at operating at Senior Executive level and with excellent presentation skills.
- Commercially minded – ability to meet and exceed sales targets.
- Ability to work well within a matrix organization.
- Fluency in English and Spanish required, any additional language is a plus.
- A passion for sports and an interest in Basketball is a plus.
- BS/BA required; MBA preferred.
