Ladies European Tour (LET) CEO, Ivan Khodabakhsh, has revealed today that the Rio 2016 Olympics is ‘enormously important’ in helping the game of women’s golf to expand.

Golf is set to enter the Olympics in 2016 for the first time in more than 100 years and Khodabakhsh is hoping the opportunities the Games open will not be missed.

“It is enormously important, while normally the top tournaments have an audience of millions, the Olympics provides a platform to showcase your sport to billions of people,” he told iSportconnect exclusively

The former World Series of Boxing CEO also hailed the gender equality at the Olympics and how it will allow their players to be on an even playing field compared to their male counterparts.

“Olympics has many great values one of them being gender equality, so there is no differentiation between the women’s game and the men’s game at the Olympics. We have the same opportunity to showcase our players at the Olympic Games and I think that is a huge opportunity to grow the sport beyond the traditional golfing nations.”
