Premier League Tops Transfer Spending for 2013

The Premier League have topped the 2013 overseas spending chart on transfers paying £660 million (€800 or $1billion) on international transfers, it was revealed today.

The amount spent by the Premier League in 2013 also covers £50 million, (€60 million or $83 million) on agents’ fees, a FIFA report has revealed. 

There was a large gap between the spending of the Premier League and the Italian, French, Spanish and German clubs who combined spent a total of £875 million, (€1 Billion, $1.4 Billion).

However it was the Spanish clubs who came out on top of the net earners as it was revealed that they earnt £150million, (€181 million $248 million) in selling players abroad. 

Brazil was the country that supplied the most players abroad as they sold overseas 1,558 – 13% of the total. 

The biggest overseas signing made from the Premier League was by Arsenal who bought Germany’s Mezut Ozil for £42.4 million, (€51 million, $70 million). 

Mark Goddard, General Manager of Fifa’s Transfer Matching System said: “There are just a very few clubs making very big moves and that is skewing the market, but the rest of the market is very stable.”
