Pakistan Given to December by IOC to Demonstrate No Olympic Committee Government Interference

October 7, 2013

The International Olympic Committee (IOC) has set December 1 deadline for Pakistan to show that its Olympic committee and sports federations are being run without interference from the national government.

Pakistan has been facing possible suspension from the Olympic movement under IOC rules, order which guarantee the independence of elected sports officials.

A meeting at IOC headquarters was called to address “allegations that parallel bodies have been established” to rival officially recognised sports federations.

The IOC says government authorities pledged that they “will cooperate and refrain from any undue intervention”.

The IOC says it “hopes that mutual understanding and a productive relationship can now be established”.
