New Jersey GP Promoter Expects Race to be Included in 2014 F1 Calendar

September 18, 2013

The promoter of the New Jersey Grand Prix, Leo Hindery Jr., says he thinks the Grand Prix of America will be on the 2014 F1 calendar despite being dropped from the preliminary schedule.

The street circuit was not ready for 2013 and a leaked 21 race calendar for 2014 did not include the race, casting doubts over its future.

However, in a report by Sky Sports, Hindrey Jr. said: “We never had any expectation of being on a preliminary schedule.

“But it took on a life of its own because so many of us are aspiring to be on the calendar that haven’t been there before – ourselves, Russia, Mexico, and with Austria also returning. In our particular case we were told not to do anything but stick to the date of the 20th, which we intend to do.

“The calendar decision will be made later this month, and although I can’t guarantee anything, we fully expect to be on it.”

F1 chief executive Bernie Ecclestone had previously told Sky Sports F1: “We have a contract with New Jersey and I hope they can honour the contract.”
