National Growth Manager, Diverse Communities – England & Wales Cricket Board

Overview:

The ECB has recently restructured its operation to focus on increasing growth and participation within Cricket.  As an outcome of this restructure this exciting new role has become available with the sole aim of increasing broader Community Engagement, health ensuring the sport is creating a level playing field of opportunity, from grassroots to elite cricket.
Reporting to the Head of Growth this role will operate across the new seven regional hubs focussing on delivering the Inclusion Growth Strategy with the support of the Regional Growth Executives as well as strategic partners.
Objectives: Key 4 year goals and priorities

  • – To provide the ECB and its delivery network with up to date knowledge through trends, barriers and accelerators for Black and Asian Minority Ethnic (BAME) participants recognising and implementing the ONE GAME ethos nationwide. Ensure appropriate monitoring & evaluation of ongoing and new programmes in line with funding requirements including online monitoring platforms and finance return tools.
  • – Ensuring sustainability of the Sport by empowering the Leagues and Clubs to use insight to help them make informed decisions of how they can develop their environments to be more equitable and accessible to engage with a new generation and culture of cricket.
  • – To lead the delivery of the growth of BAME Cricket, through migration and retention, by utilising national campaigns and programmes, such as, The Lord Taverners City Cup and Last Man Stands with the aim of significantly growing participation within Cricket.
  • – Help identify ways of growing the game by introducing new formats into new markets with particular emphasis on casual and community based cricket activity, using health, physical activity, and where necessary using Cricket as a vehicle to support community cohesion by developing social, civic and cultural competences as a key driver for participation.
  • – Actively promote and grow the game by working with national sporting organisations, such as, The Asian Sports Foundation; The National Asian Cricket Council; Sporting Equals; Equality & Human Rights – Commission; Muslim Women’s Sport Foundation; Sikh Sport UK as well as the African Caribbean Cricket Association. The collective aim being to ensure all communities have access to Cricket whether playing, volunteering or watching the game.
  • – Identify the workforce needs at local and regional levels to deliver the National Cricket Strategy for diversity, nurturing a more diverse and representative workforce to lead the development of the game and contribute to its governance.
  • – Build strong long term relationships to ensure the successful leadership of a joined up network, continuing to consult with internal and external stakeholders sharing best practice and developing new ideas and tools for delivery, making Cricket the sport of choice within BAME Communities.
  • – Through the Regional Growth Executives and colleagues support in driving an inclusive culture for Cricket across the game and champion the growth of this sector, targeting the hardest to reach including BAME girls, women, and disabled people.
  • – Manage the network of the 5 core cities developing South Asian Cricket programmes, share best practice and cascade the learning through the regional networks.  Ensuring this intelligence is incorporated into the Growth Strategy of increasing these core cities to 10 by 2019.
  • – Leveraging National and Global events such as the 2017 Women’s World Cup and 2019 ICC World Cup to highlight, within the Media, the Multicultural heritage within Cricket.
Ongoing Objectives:
  • – Liaise with external bodies to maximise funding opportunities to help, grow, develop, promote and strengthen BAME Cricket in England and Wales.
  • – To support the regions and counties in developing an integrated offer and talent identification programmes ensuring a more reflective playing population encouraging a lifelong involvement and inspire a new generation of cricketers to play, watch and love the game.
  • – Be innovative and creative exploring new opportunities for growth in non-traditional formats by developing tailored programmes to inspire people to take part.For example, focus on the growth of ‘gully’/ ‘tapeball’ cricket.
  • – Actively partner with Chance 2 Shine, Lord Taverners & the Youth Sport Trust to help bring a new generation of mainstream and special schools into cricket and grow the relevance of cricket in Schools with a particular focus on BAME children, young people and young adults.
  • – Work closely with the competitions & performance managers ensuring competition and player pathways are aligned achieving a fully integrated player pathway for BAME players to achieve their full potential.
  • – Liaise with external bodies to maximise funding opportunities to help, grow, develop, promote and strengthen BAME Cricket in England and Wales.

Expertise:
This role requires:
  • – Experience of working with BAME Communities in Sport, demonstrating a thorough understanding of multicultural communities within this field.
  • – The ability to interpret complex data and use these insights to influence stakeholders obtaining buy-in to implement National and Regional Strategies.
  • – Demonstrate in-depth knowledge of growth markets, such as, within South Asian Communities.
  • – Demonstrate sophisticated cultural awareness.
  • – Creative problem solver and independent thinker with a track record of developing and implementing innovative programmes.
  • – Demonstrate leadership and strong team orientation with the ability to influence across multiple stakeholders both internally and externally.
  • – Demonstrate an adaptive approach to communication and negotiation skills.
  • – Experience of presenting at all levels.
  • – Outstanding project management skills essentially required in order to manage oversight of programmes implemented nationally and regionally.
