Overview

Reporting to the VP of Multicultural Engagement and Integration, you will be responsible for the management and execution of multicultural marketing strategy across SGL business units.

Essential Duties And Responsibilities

  • Assists VP of Multicultural Marketing on the development of various content ideas and publishing partnerships to attract multicultural hockey fans
  • Strategize and glean insights from data to make recommendations that inform future marketing initiatives to drive year over year growth of the multicultural fanbase
  • Development of key cultural SGL campaigns through stewardship of creative/digital assets including digital banners, home page takeover, slot virtual, video boards, monthly initiative emails, video assets (TV spots, pre-roll, billboards), program copy (PA/radio scripts, native ad copy, ticker copy), as well as updating initiative websites as needed.
  • Collaborate with Project Manager along with NHL Studios, Social team, Creative studio, and outside departments to gather creative asset specs for amplification and syndication of multicultural marketing campaigns 
  • Build and enhance relationships with national broadcasters in US (ESPN & Turner) and Canada (Sportsnet) with an eye towards collaborating on and extending SGL programs through our national broadcast partners
  • Support VP in selection and management of creative agency and external SGL collaborators
  • Track and manage invoices and content development costs of key cultural SGL campaigns

Qualifications

  • Minimum of 7-9 years experience in project management for an in-house creative team or agency, sports league or entertainment company
  • Deep interest in culture and a pulse on worldwide events and trends
  • Proven track record for developing and executing long-term strategic plans, versed in analytics and consumer insights
  • Executive presence and presentation skills are important, and the successful candidate must be an effective communicator at all levels of organizations
  • Versed in providing marketing solutions and content development ideas that reach multicultural audiences
  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent

1 INTRODUCTION

The International Ice Hockey Federation (IIHF) is the governing body of international ice hockey. The IIHF features 82 member associations, each of which is the national governing body of the sport in its nation. Besides controlling the international rulebook, processing international player transfers, and dictating officiating guidelines, the IIHF runs numerous development programs designed to bring hockey to a broader population. From its headquarters in Zurich, the IIHF organizes in cooperation with its 32 full-time staff members more than 35 international tournaments and competitions annually.

2. BACKGROUND AND PURPOSE

The operations of the IIHF have a worldwide scope. Consequently, both IIHF and external persons are required to travel by air frequently. The total annual air fare transactions of the IIHF is currently estimated at 2300 flight tickets of which equal parts concern IIHF staff and external persons. Both categories concern destinations worldwide of which 6% are domestic trips, 70% are continental flights, and 24% of the flights are intercontinental flights.

The purpose of this Request for Tenders is to conclude a framework contract with a travel management company capable of providing the services and handling the number of airfare tickets for both IIHF staff and external persons.

Overview


The Sr. Manager, Fan Intelligence will provide subject matter expertise, technical expertise and thought leadership in the area of Fan Intelligence through first-party fan research on behalf of the NHL League office and the 32 Clubs. The collection of first party research, as well as the analysis and reporting of that research is of critical importance to the NHL and the successful candidate will have the opportunity to make a marked difference for all League organizations.


Essential Duties

  • Lead survey design for league benchmarking survey over multiple waves throughout each season
  • Wield advanced Tableau skills to display survey results on a Club-by-Club basis and across the League as a whole, in both standardized and ad hoc reporting presentations
  • Utilize market research and analysis experience to guide League and Club stakeholders in interpreting research data and fan input
  • Lead information sharing and consultative guidance efforts with Clubs through identification of insights and action items regarding League Fan Research Studies
  • Collaborate across the Fan Engagement & Analytics department to provide guidance on all initiatives aimed at better understanding our fans’ interests and preferences 
  • Support email marketing and paid media efforts with insights for optimizing fan response and engagement

Communications Manager – International Ice Hockey Federation

Reporting to the Marketing & Communications Director, this role is an exciting opportunity for an experienced sports communications specialist to make a contribution to the overall IIHF communication strategy, manage events and drive awareness in a complex but exciting digital era. As Communications Manager, you will have in-depth communications experience and a passion for ice hockey. You will work closely with IIHF Member National Associations, members of the media, internal departments, and content teams to ensure that IIHF delivers a clear, compelling and consistent message in all external communications. You will be competent working with both traditional and new media platforms, and have a deep professional understanding of the ever-evolving digital and social media landscape.

The IIHF would like this position to start as soon as possible. 

Key Responsibilities

  • Work with the Marketing & Communications Director to develop and execute an overall communications strategy to reach IIHF’s strategic initiatives
  • Responsible for all written communications, from writing press releases, speeches, written statements, and briefings to proactive and reactive communications throughout the season in English, the official language of IIHF
  • Act as direct contact to media, coordinating requests and interviews
  • Management of media operations and media accreditation process at IIHF tournaments
  • Liaison to host organizing committees and assisting them with media services and media accreditation for IIHF World Championships, Olympic Games, and Youth Olympic Games
  • Responsible for content, design, creation and production of all internal and external IIHF publications
  • Work with the Digital Content Team to provide topics for online editorial and social media coverage for IIHF.com of top-level events
  • Create editorial guidelines for IIHF tournaments in regards to IIHF website, social media, photography and video content
  • Monitor media coverage for story trends and reputational impacts, both positive and negative
  • Work with IIHF departments to development editorial content to promote ice hockey topics
  • Develop and execute communications measures with major stakeholders, i.e. federations, clubs, leagues

Skills and Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Communication, Journalism, Public Relations or similar
  • Absolute requirement is minimum 8-10 years of successful career in journalism and/or communications role in an international ice hockey environment of which a minimum of five years must have been in North American ice hockey
  • Media training and crisis communication experience an asset
  • 100% fluent English speaking/writing ability is a requirement as all press and written communications must be in the IIHF official language
  • German or further languages also advantageous
  • Previous experience producing content and handling media relations for ice hockey events
  • Excellent written and verbal communications skills
  • Able to plan and execute multiple tasks in an accurate, efficient and reliable way
  • Ability to work under pressure in an event and team-oriented environment
  • Proficiency in full Microsoft Office suite, Adobe Creative Suite, video-editing software

This new position on the NHL digital team will have an essential role in the on-going management of a portfolio of digital content distribution partners including AVOD, TVOD, social media, and emerging media platforms.

This role will:

  • Develop relationships with the NHL’s existing digital content distribution partners and work to maximize the revenue and audience engagement opportunities.
  • Ensure timely delivery of digital content through collaboration with various contributors including creative departments, ad operations, video delivery specialists and external technology vendors.
  • Day-to-day management of various content distribution tasks including overseeing YouTube Content ID, publishing schedules, and the procurement of metadata and creative assets.
  • Support the business development strategy by identifying new partnerships through detailed research of digital media market trends.
  • Conduct data-driven analysis of content viewership and revenue performance and effectively communicate insights to stakeholders including senior executives.
  • Support the supervision of the department’s annual budget by monitoring forecasting benchmarks and outgoing expenses.

Qualifications
