Director, Communications – MLS

The Director, Communications manages and drives public relations activities for Major League Soccer and Soccer United Marketing. The Director leads all aspects of communications on MLS Competition, MLS Player Engagement, and MLS Safety and Operations matters. The individual in this role also creates and drives strategic communications plans, supports functional areas of MLS and SUM, and works closely with MLS clubs on communications strategy.

Responsibilities

Primary Responsibilities 

  • Strategic writer and editor who shapes public perception of the organization while upholding its values and integrity 
  • Generate earned media coverage through the use of:
    • Creative feature ideas 
    • Engagement with media outlets and editorial decision makers 
  • Writing and editing duties to include, but not limited to: feature idea pitches, press releases, reference materials, executive speeches, quote drafts, select internal and external written communications, presentation decks, and multimedia projects. 
  • Serve as a Communications liaison to the following groups: MLS Competition, MLS Player Engagement, MLS Security, and MLS Operations. 
  • Serve as MLS Communications liaison to the Eastern Conference MLS clubs 
  • Respond to media inquiries in a timely manner, providing background information, facilitating interviews and serving as a company spokesperson on select topics as necessary 
  • Live monitoring of MLS games and related internal and external communications 
  • Support League executives with interview preparation, message points, and strategic messaging 
  • Manage editorial relationships with select national media partners 
  • Work closely with MLS clubs to support their communications strategies 
  • Manage Communications relationship with pertinent media associations 
  • Accomplish team results by communicating job expectations and managing the Performance Management process:
    • Plan, monitor, and review performance; 
    • Coach and counsel employees; 
  • Develop and implement department procedures and productivity standards and reinforce Company policies 
  • Serve as the supervisor and mentor for the Sr. Coordinator, Communications

Additional Responsibilities

QualificationsEducation and Experience

  • Bachelor’s Degree in public relations, marketing, sports administration or related field 
  • 8+ years of proven experience in public relations\communications, or marketing

Overview /Objective

This role will be a critical member of the team that supports the management and execution of League partners’ contractual agreements. Specific duties are essential for this role to manage the day-to-day requirements of League partners and work across the League to support initiatives with the partner.

Responsibilities

  • Day to day responsibilities for managing minimum of 8 partners 
  • Fulfilment of contractual deliverables in partner deals

Overview

Reporting to the VP of Multicultural Engagement and Integration, you will be responsible for the management and execution of multicultural marketing strategy across SGL business units.

Essential Duties And Responsibilities

  • Assists VP of Multicultural Marketing on the development of various content ideas and publishing partnerships to attract multicultural hockey fans
  • Strategize and glean insights from data to make recommendations that inform future marketing initiatives to drive year over year growth of the multicultural fanbase
  • Development of key cultural SGL campaigns through stewardship of creative/digital assets including digital banners, home page takeover, slot virtual, video boards, monthly initiative emails, video assets (TV spots, pre-roll, billboards), program copy (PA/radio scripts, native ad copy, ticker copy), as well as updating initiative websites as needed.
  • Collaborate with Project Manager along with NHL Studios, Social team, Creative studio, and outside departments to gather creative asset specs for amplification and syndication of multicultural marketing campaigns 
  • Build and enhance relationships with national broadcasters in US (ESPN & Turner) and Canada (Sportsnet) with an eye towards collaborating on and extending SGL programs through our national broadcast partners

Head of Ticketing:

The Revenue and Commercial team oversees the Ticketing, Hospitality, Accommodations and Food & Beverage departments within the Games Planning & Delivery group. This department is responsible for securing key revenue streams for LA28, ensuring sold out and fully attended events, and creating a robust and integrated accommodations strategy that supports our key stakeholders and operational needs.

Reporting to the VP, Business Strategy & Analytics, the Senior Director of Ticketing will be responsible for the creation, planning and execution of the ticketing strategy for the Olympic and Paralympic Games. They will oversee the entire ticketing department and be responsible for driving over $1.5B in revenue while ensuring full stadia, high service levels for key clients, and broad public access to tickets. Additionally, this role will liaise between internal departments, external stakeholders, ticketing providers, and others to develop and implement ticketing strategy for the Games.

Key Responsibilities:

Strategic Leadership

  • Hire, train, motivate, and evaluate department staff
  • Directly supervise multiple sub-functions including ticketing operations, key client services, sales and revenue management
  • Develop and adhere to departmental budget with clear steps to implement, monitor, and appropriately measure plan deliverables
  • Develop a clear growth plan for the department from present through Games time

Revenue Generation

  • Develop a business plan for the ticketing function, including strategic vision, pricing, go-to-market strategy, client servicing, etc.
  • Manage the development of a pricing strategy for over 12M tickets across almost 1000 sessions
  • Support the ticketing technology solution including the identification, contract execution, and management of the Ticketing System Provider
  • Drive the development of a secondary market strategy, including partner(s) identification and contract negotiations
  • Ensure a robust, data-driven approach to ticketing

Cross-Functional Collaboration

  • Establish close working relationships with key functional areas (especially Venues & Infrastructure and Sport) to ensure the ticketing strategy maximizes revenue opportunities while supporting the overall Games strategy
  • Work with the IOC and IPC to understand all requirements, get strategic buy-in, and expedite approval processes where necessary
  • Closely align with the Hospitality FA to ensure ticketing is integrated with LA28’s hospitality partner to help maximize revenue

The annual base salary range for this position is $175,000 – $222,000. The pay scale provided is the range that LA28 reasonably expects to pay as starting base compensation for this role. Senior Coordinator, Communications – NFL

Overview /Objective 

This position will oversee with direction from the Director and Chief NFL Spokesman the implementation of a proactive communications and media monitoring operation focused on capturing, analyzing, and shaping the news to advance the league’s mission and priorities.

Responsibilities

  • Serve as a key member of the News Bureau, proactively pitching story ideas and securing placement of positive NFL coverage. 
  • Work cross-departmentally to build a list of non-football outlets and national media with whom to establish relationships and a plan for doing so. 
  • Work closely with junior members of the department to monitor, identify, and distribute timely NFL news items. 
  • Analyze news important to the league and deliver coverage reports to executives in real time. 
  • Support NFL executives on proactive communications strategies, including press conferences and interviews. 
  • Have a constant pulse on the social media conversation, identifying areas for reinforcement or pushback. 
  • Create press materials including news releases, talking points, reporter emails, etc.

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in related field and a minimum of 4 years experience in communications, public relations, journalism, sports, OR an equivalent combination of education and experience.

Director NFL+ – NFL

The NFL+ content lead will play a key role in defining the content direction for NFL+, a direct-to-consumer product. This role will work with internal stakeholders to ideate and execute premium football content, both in- and out of season.
