Manchester United Reveal Record Turnover & Two New Sponsors

September 18, 2013

Manchester United have announced record revenue and more more commercial deals, with agreements signed with Commercial Bank of Qatar and Emirates NBD Bank.

The Premier League champions record annual revenue, rose by 13.4% to £363.2million for the year to June 30, 2013.

With new deals being announced on almost a weekly basis, it is no surprise commercial revenues have risen a huge 29.7% to £152.5m for the year ended June 30, 2013.

It is the most significant rise in the 13.4% overall increase in turnover to a club record of £363.2m. The club’s debt has fallen by 10.9% to £389.2million.

The news was revealed on the same day the club announced regional sponsorship agreements with Commercial Bank of Qatar and Emirates NBD Bank.

United have signed five-year deals with the banking organisations that will see them become official financial services partners in Qatar and United Arab Emirates respectively.

As part of the separate agreements, both organisations will have the rights to produce United-branded credit, debit and prepaid cards. In addition, Emirates NBD Bank will also market its own Manchester United savings account.

Manchester United group managing director Richard Arnold commented: “Manchester United is very pleased to be teaming up with both of these prominent banking groups to offer our fans in Qatar and the UAE another way to support their team.

“Collectively, the Club has over a million followers in Qatar and the UAE and we hope that the introduction of the two new partnerships will allow us further to expand the Manchester United family, bringing supporters closer to the team they love.”

Rapid commercial growth

United have been rapidly growing their commercial partners list in 2013 and already this month the club has signed a nutrition partner in Japan and a credit card deal with MBNA.

Suvo Sarkar, General Manager – Retail Banking, Emirates NBD said: “Emirates NBD is honoured to be the official financial services partner in the UAE for Manchester United, which holds the distinction of being the most popular football club in the world and has more than 750,000 followers in the UAE alone.

“Through this strategic partnership platform, we are also proud to introduce the Emirates NBD Manchester United Credit and Prepaid Cards to the UAE market, to reach out to the strong Manchester United fan base in the country. The co-branded credit and pre-paid card will enable us to offer customers a wide range of priceless experiences and privileges.”

Chief executive officer from Commercial Bank of Qatar, Mr Abdulla Al Raisi also said he was “proud” with the new partnership and that he believed their relationship with United would go from “strength to strength.”
