Manchester Giants Net Oldham College Partnership

June 24, 2014

Manchester Giants of the British Basketball League (BBL) have formed a new partnership with Oldham College which will see a basketball academy set up for students.

The new partnership will allow students to benefit from top-level coaching, as well as opening the door for them to gather insight into the club and ‘professional progression routes.’

Oldham College’s Principal and Chief Executive Alun Francis said: “The partnership with Manchester Giants in setting up the basketball academy is great news for Oldham.

“Working with employers and proposed partners, means that our students get the opportunity to understand the industry as a whole and it also helps by benefiting the community.”

The first phase of the partnership will start in September, with students given the chance to gain work experience at the Giants, as well as coaching and visits to games.

The academy will open in September 2015 and be aimed at 16-19 year olds.

Manchester Giants director Graham Herstell said: “The academy will give the students a platform to make the most of their basketball talents and provides a great opportunity for them to fulfil their potential and to become the best they can be.

“We believe that the Giants and the College together can set in place a valuable stage on the pathway for great things for aspiring young players.”
