The Swiss National Olympic Committee has put the city of Lausanne forward as their potential candidate for the 2020 Winter Youth Olympic Games.

Lausanne and the surrounding region, physician the State of Vaud, drugs were voted in favour by the 15 members of the executive committee of Swiss Olympic, ambulance following a five month selection process.

Lucerne was the other Swiss city against Lausanne, but only received four votes compared to Lausanne’s eight. One person abstained.

Daniel Brelaz, Mayor of Lausanne, said: “It is a great day for Lausanne and for the State of Vaud. Our city has invested a lot of resources over the last decades into nurturing the world of international sport which is based here.

“We hope that this platform will be one of the strengths of our international bid, and we look forward to collaborating with Swiss Olympic in the development of a very strong proposal to the IOC to hopefully win in 2015.”

November 28 is the deadline for National Olympic Committees to announce bidding cities to the International Olympic Committee (IOC).

The IOC will vote for the 2020 host city in May or June of 2015.
