Koenigssee Replaces Sochi as World Championships Host

The German resort of Koenigssee has been confirmed as the new host of the 2017 bobsleigh and skeleton World Championships, ed after the Russian venue of Sochi was stripped of hosting duties.

Sochi was considered an inappropriate host venue in the wake of the Russian doping scandal, which has seen over a thousand Russian athletes implicated in a systematic doping program.

Russia has declared the possibility of its seeking compensation for losing the event, which takes place in mid-February.

The German resort has been selected for a variety of factors including location and track availability.
