Kim Jin-sun Retains Pyeongchang 2018 Presidency for Second Term

Kim Jin-sun will serve a second term as the President of Pyeongchang 2014 after being re-elected by the Olympic and Paralympic Organising Committee in Seoul.

After his re-election, Kim promied an “athlete-orientated Olympic Games” and outlined his plans to ensure a successful event. He said: “First of all, I will make sure that all infrastructures, such as venues, transportation networks and other related facilities, are completed on time as planned. 

“POCOG [the Pyeongchang 2018 Organising Committee] will devise a plan to make its 2018 Winter Games an all-inclusive and far-reaching festival, which will set PyeongChang apart from other previous Games.”

The President added: “The newly-instated committee will work with experts and scholars-alike to ensure that the principles and traditions of the Olympic Movement are reflected in Pyeongchang’s operation plan.

“We will seek wisdom to identify the kind of legacy we want Pyeongchang to leave behind, as well as how best to achieve it.”

Kim also said that detailed plans of the Opening and Closing Ceremonies, promotional strategies, event schedules, IT systems and voluteer recruitment would be revealed in 2014.
