iSportconnect Throws Successful Summer Party with the Clipper Race

August 30, 2013

iSportconnect hosted a successful and thoroughly enjoyable Summer Party in partnership with the Clipper Round the World Yacht Race last evening at St Katharine Docks in London. The Summer Party was the first thrown by iSportconnect and with the top-class delegates and major announcements taking place, the first party will certainly not be the last!

The night opened with a question and answer session from the Clipper Race founder and legendary sailor Sir Robin Knox-Johnston. Sir Robin explained why he created the race and how the event had continued to ‘evolve’ in order to stay fresh and attract new business.

Speaking about the Summer Party Sir Robin said: “It was a great opportunity to meet with the sports business community against the backdrop of the Clipper Race fleet in St Katharine Docks by Tower Bridge in London. I think it made the perfect setting for the inaugural event and was good to share our success story with the sports industry.”

iSportconnect Chairman Michael Cunnah added: “The first iSportconnect Summer Party has been a fantastic success and I have thoroughly enjoyed catching up with old acquaintances whilst also meeting new people. It has been a pleasure to hold the event at St Katharine Dock, where our friends and partners the Clipper Race are ready to set sail on their latest adventure. We wish them all the best and I am looking forward to throwing another party next year!”

Nic Coward, General Secretary of the Premier League commented: “I’m thoroughly enjoying meeting Sir Robin and William Ward (Clipper Ventures CEO) who have obviously got a great business going. To meet people that are giving up 11 months of their life some of them for this experience is quite chastening for those of us who won’t be joining them. But to be part of the iSportconnect event, having done a few of them before, it is great to meet some old friends and some new faces as well.”

On a night of celebration, there was also a number of developments launched at the Summer Party, including the launch of the Jamaica yacht for the Clipper Race. The ‘Get All Right’ yacht was launched by Sir Robin and Aloun Ndombet-Assamba, the High Commissioner to Jamaica. In a party atmosphere, complete with kettle drums and celebrity personalities such as Levi Roots of Dragons Den fame, the Get All Right boat was launched next to the yachts she will be competing against in just two days’ time.

Sir Robin commented: “Jamaica has always been one of the most popular locations amongst our crew when we visited in past editions of the Clipper Race. The Jamaica Get All Right crew are extremely proud to be representing Jamaica and I know they will do their very best to represent such a beautiful country.”

Guests at the Summer Party included iSportconnect’s Official Business Aviation partner, PrivatAir, who flew over from Switzerland to join the celebrations.

Night of entertainment

As the sun set, guests were invited up to the River Lounge restaurant for further food and entertainment. Looking over St Katharine Docks the River Lounge provided the perfect setting to end an enjoyable and entertaining evening.

The 2013-14 Clipper Round the World Yacht Race sets sail from St Katharine Docks on Sunday September 1 and will return 11 months and 40,000 miles later.
