IPC Turns Down Russian Qualifiers Request

January 31, 2017

The governing board of the International Paralympic Committee (IPC) has turned down a request from the Russian Paralympic Committee (RPC) to enter athletes into upcoming qualifying events for the 2018 Winter Paralympics.

Russia was banned from 2016’s Olympic and Paralympic Games in Rio De Janeiro after being accused of running a state-sponsored doping program. The suspension has been in place for almost six months, with the IPC maintaining that Russia have not met the criteria for re-inclusion.

The IPC have, however, confirmed that the door is not necessarily closed, and there could be the opportunity for reinstatement further down the line.
