Overview:
An exciting opportunity has arisen for a talented Head of Fundraising to join the Manchester United Foundation on a permanent basis. The Head of Fundraising will provide leadership to the Fundraising team, Foundation staff, Trustees and Directors within the sphere of fundraising. They will also align with the vision, strategy, values and objectives of the Manchester United Foundation. The Head of Fundraising will develop upon existing and also new relationships with relevant stakeholders and in doing so will create a series of high profile fund raising events, with sustainability built in to create and annual calendar. They will be responsible for ensuring these events are delivered successfully and meet the agreed targets and objectives.
Due to this post being in regulated activity, the potential employee will be required to undertake a Disclosure and Barring Service check at the appropriate level. It is a criminal offence for a barred person to attempt to engage with vulnerable groups.

Job Description
Post title: Head of Fundraising
Accountable to: Chief Executive Officer
Pay and Benefits: Salary offered will be commensurate with relevant experience and the level of responsibility undertaken in the post. Benefits include membership of the Group Pension Scheme (subject to certain eligibility criteria), up to 25 days paid annual leave and an Occupational Sickness Scheme.
Key Responsibilities
Key responsibilities of the role include:
- To lead and develop the fundraising team (both permanent and casual workers) to increase the revenue streams into the Foundation.
- To develop new and sustainable relationships and partnerships with stakeholders that comply with the Foundation’s guidelines and support the Club’s partnership strategies.
- To investigate and instigate opportunities that may exist working with grant making trusts and Foundations.
- To identify, develop and sustain non conflicting relationships with high net worth individuals for the purposes of generating revenue for the Foundation’s charitable activities and programmes.
- Strengthen relationships with existing funders and supporters through the development and execution of an effective annual plan and calendar of reporting and stewardship activities, ensuring Foundation donors are kept aware of the use and impact of their funds.
- To represent the Manchester United Foundation at external events and other opportunities that may increase the likelihood of further fundraising engagement.
- Develop the case for support and oversee how the Foundation is presented to external funders and stakeholders.
- Ensure the accurate reporting of all donor and supporter activity on the Foundation’s contact management system and in paper files as required.
Governance Requirements
- Working with and being an integral part of the Foundation’s Executive Management Team reporting to the Chief Executive Officer.
- Ensuring that at all times due diligence around suitability is taken when engaging new stakeholders.
- Ensuring that consideration of rules and regulations of statutory bodies, the Charity Commission, Gambling laws etc are adhered to in any transaction undertaken in the name of Manchester United Foundation.
- Working with and through the Director of Finance & Compliance to ensure that tight financial management is demonstrated in all fundraising activity.
- In accordance with the direction of the CEO, ensuring that a report is prepared and presented on a quarterly basis to MUF Trustees and MUFT Board Directors.
- Delivering events which are representative of the brand, whilst at the same time high profit generators.
- Reviewing policies, procedures and practices in the department and advise/implement improvements.
Key Skills & Experience
The successful candidate will be an experienced Fundraising Manager/Director, with a genuine commitment to effective positive change in children and young people’s lives and will have the following skills and attributes:
- Strong leadership, management and organisational skills.
- Sound business acumen within a charity/youth sector.
- Strategically minded, innovative and creative with a passion for delivering excellence.
- The ability to positively influence key stakeholders, whilst also contributing to the positive culture of the charity.
- Experience in promoting safeguarding, child protection, equality and inclusion.
- Leadership experience within an organisation, preferably through a Director or Senior management role.
- Proven track record of financial management, performance and income generation.
- An outstanding communicator at all levels, including presentation skills and public speaking.
- The ability to close the deal with individuals and corporate partners.
- Experience of strategic planning/business planning frameworks.
- Experience of identifying and building partnerships with external stakeholders.
- Knowledge of commissioning services for children and young people.
- Experience of organisational legal responsibilities.
- Demonstrate experience of managing change.
- Experience of using and creating a contact management database.
- A full UK driving licence.
Hours of Work
The employee is required to work 35 hours per week. However given the nature of the role hours of work may vary and will be planned in accordance with the demands of the business; this may include evening and weekend working where necessary.
