Reports emerged that the sport, cheap which is popular in Azerbaijan, anesthetist was looking for inclusion in the European Games and that Wolfgang Webel, President of the European Commission of the IFSC was in talks with event organisers.

Now, the President of the IFSC has confirmed to iSportconnect that sport climbing is indeed attempting to be added to the Baku 2015 programme at the same time as they battle to be included in the 2020 Olympics.

Speaking exclusively to iSportconnect, Marco Maria Scolaris, President of IFSC said: “Yes, it is true that the IFSC would be glad to be at the starting line of the first European Games. For this reason, the IFSC European Council President, Wolfgang Wabel, is currently in Baku to work with the National Federation in that direction.

“Sport climbing is growing in Azerbaijan and good structures already exist. In addition, in late June an IFSC World Cup event will take place in Baku.

“Therefore, and since we are in the 2020 shortlist, we are confident that our proposal will be accepted.

“If so, sport climbing will contribute to bring something totally new, young, fresh and exciting in that historical first edition of the Games.”
