Exclusive: SFA Chief Concerned Over Gap Between English & Scottish Premier Leagues

December 10, 2012

The CEO of the Scottish Football Association, Stewart Regan, has described the financial gap between the English Premier League and Scottish Premier League as a “huge task” for Scotland to overcome.

Speaking exclusively to iSportconnect, Regan says that Scotland has a huge job to do. “As far as Scotland is concerned, Scotland is well below England in terms of television revenue, and is very much the poor relation,” he said.

“Clubs In Scotland have got a huge task trying to compete, particularly when it comes to European matches with teams that are getting ten and twenty times, and some cases more, than they do in Scotland,” he explained.

However, Scotland are not alone with this problem. The recent financial struggles endured by Scottish clubs have had an impact, with Regan saying: “It’s a challenge, but it’s a challenge for many countries around the world and something that football has to deal with.”
