Current ticket sales for the Sochi 2014 Winter Olympics have pleased their President Dmitry Chernyshenko.

The 2014 Winter Olympics will be held in the black sea resort of Sochi during the month of February next year. Tickets went on sale for the event one year prior to the opening of the event on February 7th 2013.

Sochi native, Chernyshenko has revealed tickets are selling fast with demand high.

He told iSportconnect: “We are doing everything we can to make sure that the Games are a sell-out and are very pleased with the sales results. Demand is high but tickets are still available.”

He also revealed the events that have garnered the most attention: “There is a lot of interest in the new Olympic events with over 10% of ticket sales being in the biathlon mixed relay. Almost 50% of freestyle event ticket sales are for the men’s and women’s slopestyle, and approximately 38% of figure skating tickets sold are for team events.”

A common theme for cities hosting major events is ticket pricing as many locals can sometimes be priced out of buying tickets but Chernyshenko suggested this will happen to Sochi.

“Tickets are available to suit every budget, so we are hosting an affordable Olympic Games, precisely so that local fans will be able to join in with the greatest celebration of sport on the earth. Tickets for every competition can be purchased for 1,500 rubles or cheaper and 60% of tickets on sale cost less than 3,000 rubles,” he said.

“In general ticket prices are comparable with the Vancouver 2010 Games. There are also many opportunities for the local community to join in with volunteering, the Cultural Olympiad and events in the run up to the Games.”
