Ecole Hôtelière de Lausanne becomes AISTS’ 9th founding Member

June 2, 2011

AISTS Executive Director, Dr Claude Stricker and Rémi Walbaum,
Director of Operations and Administration at Ecole Hôtelière de Lausanne (EHL) officially announced Ecole Hôtelière
de Lausanne to join the circle of AISTS’ prestigious founding members, hence becoming AISTS’ ninth founding
member.
Major sports events such as the Olympic Games or international competitions always attract large numbers of visitors
to the hosting city and country thus making the link between sports and hospitality evident. This newly established
partnership between AISTS and EHL results from a common conviction among both parties that this logical
connection is still under-developed: there is a strong need to increase excellence through higher education and
training to the concerned managers. There is also a large vacuum for creating and developing innovative solutions
through applied research with a multidisciplinary approach integrating knowledge from all AISTS’ founding
institutions.
“Welcoming EHL among our founding members will not only bring a brand new dimension to AISTS but is foremost
an immense honour considering the prestige and tradition that EHL represents” says Dr Claude Stricker.
Indeed, EHL is the very first hotel school in the world. Founded in 1893 during the era of grand palaces to respond to
the needs of a high growth in tourism that Switzerland was experiencing at the time, the School realised the
importance of excellence and hospitality. Today, EHL is still renowned for its excellence and has been voted best
hotel school in the world in a study conducted in 2010.
AISTS looks forward to a cooperation with EHL in order to develop common expertise in the area of hospitality at
sporting events, a field where both parties’ knowledge in their respective fields will complement each other.
EHL will also bring a valuable contribution to AISTS’ education programmes as it will teach in the field of hospitality, a
new topic among AISTS’ taught subjects.
“We are proud to become a founding member of AISTS and will endeavor to contribute via our brand and activities to
the development of an outstanding education pillar in Lausanne. We are convinced that this will be the results of such
partnership” says Rémi Walbaum.
EHL joins the International Olympic Committee (IOC), EPFL, IMD, Universities of Lausanne and Geneva, IDHEAP,
the City of Lausanne and the Canton of Vaud as AISTS’ prestigious founding members.
