Discovery Agrees to Share Olympics in Holland
March 21, 2016
Discovery Communications – which was represented in the lively discussion during the iSportconnect Directors Club in London last week – has reached a deal with Dutch public broadcaster NOS to make the 2018 and 2020 Olympic Games available in The Netherlands on both NOS and Discovery-owned Eurosport.
Discovery is sub-licensing free-to-air audio visual and radio rights for the 2018 Winter and 2020 Summer Games. The agreement reflects Discovery’s strategy of making the Olympics available to more viewers and across more screens in Europe than ever before.
Eurosport will retain exclusive live rights to two key sports during both the 2018 and 2020 Games. That will include ice hockey for the Winter Games in PyeongChang 2018.
The agreement reached in June 2015 between Discovery Communications and the International Olympic Committee includes exclusive multimedia rights for 50 countries and territories in Europe for the 2018 through the 2024 Olympic Games.
