Clipper Race and GoPro Team Up for Next Two Race Editions
August 22, 2013
The Clipper Round the World Yacht Race has appointed UK GoPro sailing specialists, SailSpy as the official GoPro supplier for the next two editions of the race.
The GoPro Hero3 Black Edition will record all the action from the world’s longest ocean race, from a first person point-of-view.
GoPro cameras are popular within extreme sports and Paul Hankley, Digital Media Manager at the Clipper Race, said the race would be a perfect match for the cameras.
“The conditions the crew will face during the Clipper Race will be the ideal environment for a GoPro camera,” said Hankley.
“The cameras have the ability to not only withstand the harsh surroundings but capture high quality footage which we will show around the world.”
Each team will have two of the cameras along with an accessories kit for the 40,000 mile, 11-month race.
Dave Wright, owner of SailSpy.com commented: “Partnering with the Clipper Race as the Official Supplier of GoPro cameras and accessories provides the perfect connection to give everyone an insight to ocean racing. Sailing is where it’s at for this most versatile camera.
“This partnership will allow the crew to capture the action throughout the race as well as offering them an exclusive camera bundle.”
The 2013-14 edition of the Clipper Race sets sail on September 1 from St Katherine Docks in London and will stop at 16 ports on six continents throughout the journey.
