BT Sport Agree Virgin Media Deal

August 15, 2013

BT Sport and Virgin Media have today announced a three-year deal that will allow Virgin’s 3.8 million customers access to the new BT Sport channels.

One million UK households already receive BT Sport, a figure that is set to increase following this development.

Subscribers to Virgin Media’s XL TV package will recieve BT Sport 1, BT Sport 2 and ESPN as part of their current deal. BT’s broadband users also receive the channels for free. Non-BT broadband users can subscribe from £12 per month.

BT Sport has the exclusive rights to 38 live Premier League matches, including 18 ‘top pick’ fixtures for the next three seasons, as well as rights to The FA Cup for the next five seasons. In addition to football, BT Sport will also feature live tennis, rugby, UFC, MotoGP and more.

Marc Watson, BT TV chief executive, said: “I am delighted we have signed a deal with Virgin Media that increases the audience for BT Sport to around three million homes overnight. BT is rewarding its loyal customers with free sport and it is great to see Virgin Media immediately making BT Sport available to so many of their customers.”

“BT has made a large investment in BT Sport and this is an important commercial agreement for us that recognises the excellence of the channels. We are keen to make our services as widely available as possible and to do so via wholesale arrangements. We are doing this with Sport.”
