Kessler and Stankovic Join with UEFA

Former footballers Nadine Kessler and Dejan Stankovic have taken up roles with UEFA, the governing body of European football.

Kessler has joined UEFA’s team as a women’s football advisor, which will give her the opportunity to pass on her knowledge for the good of the women’s game.

Her main roles will include helping to oversee the development of women’s football, as well as having an input in the growth of women’s competitions.

Stanković, one of Serbia’s most decorated footballers and a UEFA Champions League winner with Inter Milan , has also moved to Nyon to take up a role as a football development advisor.

Germany or Turkey to Host EURO 2024

UEFA, the governing body of European football, have confirmed that the EURO 2024 tournament will be held in either Germany or Turkey.

The countries were the only two to submit a firm declaration of interest before the March 3 deadline. There had been significant talk of a joint Scandinavian bid, but it failed to materialise.

Both federations must produce a bid dossier by April 2018, with European football’s governing body choosing the winner the following September.

“It’s clear that there will be two strong bids for Uefa’s showcase national team competition, and it will be a tough decision to make,” said Uefa general secretary Theodore Theodoridis.

Turkey has twice bid for the European Championships already this century, as well as showing interest in hosting the Olympics.

Portugal are the current holders of the European Championship, after defeating hosts France in the 2016 edition.

ROAD TO 2024: Final Budapest Decision Still Weeks Away

Budapest 2024 Chairman Balazs Furjes has confirmed today that a final decision on the city’s 2024 Olympic and Paralympic bid will not be made for several weeks. There had been serious doubts over the future of the Budapest bid, after a petition to force a national referendum attracted over 250,000 signatures.

Budapest Mayor István Tarlós has a meeting with Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orbán to review the city’s bid, after the national youth organisation Momentum Mozgalom claimed it had fulfilled the requirements to force a city-wide referendum.

Despite the political unrest regarding the bid, there is still thought to be significant support for Budapest 2024 amongst the Hungarian population and the bid could yet regain momentum in the coming weeks. Key personnel remain optimistic about the prospect of Budapest remaining in the race.

International Olympic Committee President Thomas Bach is said to be surprised at the developments in Budapest, with the referendum generating almost twice the minimum support required to force a vote.

Former five-weight World Champion boxer Mayweather retired unbeaten in 2015, while McGregor – who obtained a professional boxing license in November 2016 – has lost just one UFC bout since joining the corporation in 2013.
