O’Driscoll Joins JMI Global Advisory Board

UEFA Announces Belarus Media Rights Deal
The National State TV and Radio Company of Belarus has been awarded exclusive media rights for the UEFA Champions League and UEFA Europa League from 2012 to 2015.
The state broadcaster will show at least one UEFA Champions League game per match night as well as highlights on its First National Channel. Its channel LAD will be the home of the UEFA Europa League in Belarus, broadcasting one match per kick-off slot and a highlights programme each match week.
In line with UEFA’s platform neutral approach, football fans in Belarus will also be able to follow both competitions on the internet via www.tvr.by and on their mobile phone.
Scudamore Wants Technology Ahead of 39th Game
Richard Scudamore, canada sale Premier League chief executive believes overseas audience would be captivated with innovative broadcast technology rather than introducing a 39th game.
The Premier League have teamed up with Sony and Electronic Arts to find out new methods to improve the viewing experience. The League has previously explored controversial plans to take regular season games abroad, see but Scudamore has declared an end to that idea.
“There’s been a step-change from standard definition to high definition in terms of how people consume football, order ” he said. “3D is coming along and there have been all these new devices coming on to the scene. There will soon be a technological development that will allow people across the world to have a much richer type of experience in terms of watching and consuming football. Our efforts and energies are concentrated in that area, rather than they are in the old-fashioned and passé idea of flying around the world playing a 39th game. We’ll find a technological solution.”
The concept of “immersion” style technology may only be a few years from being publicly available, still Scudamore is keen to ensure the Premier League remains at the vanguard of innovation. “There’s immersion technology being developed right now where you can sit down with headphones and a screen in front of you, and reproduce the feeling of being in a stadium,” he added. “If you turn your head one way you’re looking at the left-hand goal and the other way you’re looking at the right-hand goal. You’ll be able to decide where you want to be: you could be on a Saturday at 3pm, English time, in Hong Kong deciding whether you want to be on the Kop end at Anfield or the Holte End at Aston Villa. There’ll be a drop down menu and you’ll be able to choose where you want to be and watch the game. It’ll be like an Avatar type of thing available in your own home. It might sound pie in the sky, but it’s not.”
UEFA Award Star Times Sub-Saharan TV Rights
Football governing body UEFA announced Star Times will distribute the Champions League and the Europa League rights to free-to-air broadcasting in all regions of Sub-Saharan Africa except South Africa.
The announcement ensures its annual club competitions have audiences there to at least 2015.
The announcement comes on the heels of a recent pay rights deal for the region with SuperSport on both the competitions.
Longines Becomes FEI Top Partner With Historic Long-Term Deal
Longines has become the FEI’s first Top Partner following the agreement of a historic very long-term sponsorship deal that will see the Swiss watchmaker become the Official Timekeeping Partner of the FEI.
Under the new agreement – which marks the biggest sponsorship deal ever brokered by the FEI – Longines becomes the Official Top Partner, symptoms Official Timekeeper and Official Watch of the FEI. Longines will take on a number of key FEI properties including the title sponsorship of the FEI World Cup Jumping before the start of the new season in October 2013.
An official signing ceremony will take place in Lausanne on 15 January 2013, clinic when the contract will be signed jointly by FEI President HRH Princess Haya, view and Mrs Nayla Hayek, Chair of the Swatch Group Board of Directors. Full details of the agreement will be unveiled as part of the signing ceremony in January 2013.
