New Golf Channel Ten Golf Signs Deal with Professional Golf Tour of India

Professional Golf Tour of India (PGTI) have announced today a three-year exclusive partnership with Ten Golf, ed an exclusive golf channel, dosage pills which will be launched next month.

The deal provides Ten Golf with the broadcasting rights for all PGTI-sanctioned tournaments within and outside the country from 2012-2014. 

Ten Golf will broadcast a weekly show titled “Inside the PGTI”. This show will highlight the best golfing action from PGTI events and will feature golfers on the PGTI circuit. The sports channel will also air special promos and fillers based on Indian golfers and the PGTI tour.

Rising Indian golfer Manav Jaini also endorsed the partnership and said it will help Indian golf.

IOC Sells Japanese Rights to 2014 & 2016 Olympics for $472 Million

The International Olympic Commitee (IOC) has awarded Japanese broadcast rights to the 2014 and 2016 Olympics to a national consortium in a $472 million deal.

The Japan Consortium includes state broadcaster NHK and the National Association of Commercial Broadcasters of Japan.

Four years ago, discount the same group paid what is now $426 million for rights to the 2010 Vancouver Winter Games and 2012 London Olympics.

International Olympic Committee President Jacques Rogge said in a statement his organization is “delighted” to continue its relationship with the Japanese consortium.”

The 2014 Winter Games will be in Sochi, Russia. Rio de Janeiro will host the 2016 Summer Games.

Sky Sports to Broadcast GP2 & GP3 on New F1 Channel

Sky Sports has announced that its new Sky Sports F1 HD channel, which will go active in March, will also broadcast support Motorsport series GP2 and GP3.

In 2012, GP2 have an extended calendar after combining its Main and Asia Series, whereas GP3 will be in action over European Formula 1 weekends.

This year, the United Kingdom has a split television deal for F1, with Sky showing all races live on a pay-per-view package as the BBC broadcasts ten live events free-to-air, starting with Round 3 in China. On top of its support race coverage, Sky has confirmed that its weekly magazine show – hosted by Georgie Thompson and Ted Kravitz – will also provide coverage, analysis and discussions between races.

“We are delighted to be showing GP2 and GP3 live on Sky Sports F1 HD,” says Martin Turner, Sky’s Executive Producer. “There are six former GP2 Champions in Formula 1 this season, including Lewis Hamilton and last year’s winner Romain Grosjean. GP2 will begin in Malaysia, with GP3 kicking off in Barcelona.

MTV to Broadcast Lingerie Bowl as a Prelude to Super Bowl

Lingerie Football League a women’s 7-on-7 American Football tournament has teamed up with MTV2 to bring the Lingerie Bowl IX broadcast to millions of viewers this Super Bowl Sunday LIVE from Las Vegas’ Orleans Arena, Kickoff – 4pm ET / 1 pm PT.

In 2012, the Lingerie Bowl IX broadcast will no longer counter-program the Super Bowl halftime show, instead it will be broadcast in advance of kickoff of Super Bowl XLVI. The broadcast will also be shown in another 45 countries outside of the US.

Since premiering in 2004, opposite Super Bowl XXXVIII’s famed Janet Jackson ‘wardrobe malfunction’ halftime show, the Lingerie Bowl broadcast has become part of the culture of Super Bowl Sunday television viewing for millions around the world.

Clear Channel Satellite Agrees Multi-Year Partnership with LA Dodgers Radio Station

Clear Channel Satellite (CCS) has finalized a multi-year partnership with KLAC AM 570 Fox Sports, patient the Flagship station for Los Angeles Dodgers.

CCS will provide the space segment as they move their English-language radio broadcasts from 790 KABC to KLAC AM 570. The contract covers all 162 regular season games, the postgame show – DodgerTalk, any potential postseason games and at least seven spring training games to be broadcast on AM 570 and the 22 affiliates of the Dodgers Radio Network.

Liverpool to be bought by Red Sox owners

English Premier League side Liverpool is to be sold to New England Sports Ventures (NESV), the owners of the Boston Red Sox baseball team, it has been confirmed.

NESV owns a portfolio of companies including the Red Sox, New England Sports Network, Fenway Sports Group and Rousch Fenway Racing.

Liverpool chairman Martin Broughton said: “I am delighted that we have been able to successfully conclude the sale process which has been thorough and extensive.

“The board decided to accept NESV’s proposal on the basis that it best met the criteria we set out originally for a suitable new owner. NESV’s philosophy is all about winning and they have fully demonstrated that at Red Sox.

“We’ve met them in Boston, London and Liverpool over several weeks and I am immensely impressed with what they have achieved and with their vision for Liverpool Football Club.

“By removing the burden of acquisition debt, this offer allows us to focus on investment in the team.”

However, any takeover will requires the resolution of a legal dispute between Liverpool’s current owners Tom Hicks and George Gillett.

The pair tried to sack managing director Christian Purlow and commercial director Ian Ayre in an attempt to keep control of the club.

The sale will also have to be approved by the Premier League.

Root Sports to Air Big Sky Conference Football & Basketball Games

The Big Sky Conference has agreed a deal with DirecTV Sports Networks for its Root Sports network to replace Altitude Sports as its official TV partner for Big Sky football and men’s basketball starting this summer.

The five-year deal was made with DirecTV Sports Networks, which owns the Root Sports networks. Root Sports consists of three networks which has more than 8.7 million viewers across 18 states.

The change will begin with the 2012 football season. The deal was set for broadcasting up to 18 Big Sky football games and 12 Big Sky basketball conference games each season, as well as the Big Sky quarterfinal and semifinal men’s basketball tournament games.

Each game will broadcast in high definition with state-of-the-art graphic elements customized for the Big Sky, but no definitive schedule has been set yet for each team’s air-time.

Sacramento State Athletic Director Terry Wanless said the move, which takes place on July 1, is going to be a great chance for Sac State to be seen all around.

“It’s an exciting opportunity for us as a league because it gives us by far the greatest number of exposures,” Wanless said.

The previous deal with Altitude cost the Big Sky $100,000 among nine schools, which was about $11,000 per school.

Wanless said the new deal with Root Sports would save Sac State and the other Big Sky schools the money and bring them some money too.

“Right now, (the Big Sky) is paying a company, Altitude Sports, $11,000 per school to cover football only,” Wanless said. “We are going to save $11,000 immediately, plus were going to get some residual dollars back from this contract.”

Singapore FA withdraws from 2011 Asian Champions League

The Football Association of Singapore (FAS) has withdrawn from next year’s Asian Champions League in protest against a ban on foreign teams, it has been announced.

The Asian Football Confederation (AFC) has ruled that top leagues across Asia cannot contain foreign team, but the Singapore’s S.League has three – Chinese club Beijing Guoan, Japanese side Albirex Niigata and Etoile FC of France.

Chief of the FAS, Zainudin Nordin, said: “We concluded that due to our current lack of critical mass in key areas such as talent pool and resources, there is still a pressing need for us to continue having foreign teams participating in our league, to help address these gaps in our game and safeguard the sustainability of our league in football excellence, commercial and financial terms.”

President of the AFC, Mohamed Bin Hammam, added: “We have taken on board the situation of the FAS. We hope they will consider seeking direct entry to the ACL soon.

“It is hard to see Singapore out of AFC’s professional football activities in spite of their great potential. We will work hard towards seeing them playing an active role in our professional football programmes in the future.”

CBS Sports Network to Broadcast National Collegiate Hockey Conference Games in 2013

CBS Sports Network and the National Collegiate Hockey Conference (NCHC) announced Tuesday the two parties have agreed on a multi-year deal to televise games beginning in the 2013-14 season, asthma the league’s inaugural campaign.

The agreement calls for a minimum of 18 conference games to be broadcast, ed including the NCHC’s tournament semifinal and championship games.

“With top teams and passionate fan bases, medic the National is poised to be an elite college hockey conference and we’re thrilled to be the national television partner,” CBS Sports Network Senior Vice President Dan Weinberg said. “College hockey has been a staple of our programming and we’re pleased to expand our coverage and further serve fans with compelling and competitive conference action.”

Western Michigan University officially joined the NCHC on Sept. 22 after the league was formed last July.

Conference commissioner Jim Scherr said he’s excited about the exposure the league will receive with the new television deal.

“We are delighted to be associated with the preeminent national broadcaster of college hockey,” Scherr said. “It is our goal to be the premier single-sport conference in intercollegiate athletics and the unmatched exposure and production quality that will be provided by CBS Sports Network will contribute significantly to realizing that vision.”

Joining WMU in the new conference will be Miami, Minnesota-Duluth, Nebraska-Omaha, Denver, Colorado College, North Dakota and St. Cloud State.

Sheffield Wednesday opposes administration

League One football club Sheffield Wednesday has said that going into administration will not solve the side’s financial problems.

Wednesday has been served with a second winding-up petition by Her Majesty’s Revenue and Customs (HMRC) over an outstanding bill of £600,000 (US$946,000).

The petition will be heard in the High Court on 17 November.

The club has debts of over £27 million (US$42.6 million) and chairman Howard Wilkinson and chief executive Nick Parker are currently negotiating with three potential investors.

A club statement read: “Ongoing talks with a lead investment party and others remain extremely positive. One investment group has pledged to pay HMRC £600,000 as a token of its commitment to concluding a deal at the club and we continue to monitor that situation.”
