Manchester United Files US IPO

Manchester United have announced plans to sell shares in the US on the New York Stock Exchange (NYSE).

The Premier League giants filed registration papers with the Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) on Tuesday.

If the proposed restructuring goes through, bronchi the club would become a subsidiary of a new holding company called Manchester United Ltd., symptoms which would be based in the Cayman Islands.

The number of available shares and the price per share were not listed on the filing. Investors will be able to purchase Class A shares, but the Glazer family will maintain control of the club through its ownership of Class B shares. Those have 10 times the voting power as the shares United hopes to sell on the NYSE.

United said it hoped to raise up to $100 million (£64 million) in the initial public offering (IPO). It intends to use the money to help pay down some of its considerable debt. It has been ranked as the most valuable soccer club in the world for the last eight years. If the IPO is approved, United will become the first sports team to sell stock on the NYSE since the Cleveland Indians de-listed in 1998.

Sports Merchandise Exhibition Review

Another successful Sports Merchandise Exhibition comes to a close at Wembley Stadium.

With visitor numbers up from 2010 and 16 different sports being represented spanning 20 different countries the annual event continues to grow and attract new crowds.

The event featured over 115 exhibitors displaying merchandise, anabolics corporate gifts, ambulance souvenirs, mascot ideas, retail opportunities and new funky websites, all of which are now busy chasing their leads and converting those sales. With over 50% already re-booked for next year, it is proving to be an important annual event.

Next years show takes a slight twist as it becomes SMMEX – Sports Merchandise and MARKETING exhibition. The growth into digital apps, more interactive websites, signage and stadium wrap specialists and an increase in targeted PR and marketing campaigns from the clubs means we want to grow with this market and make the show even bigger in 2012. Next years show will take place on Monday 5th March.

IOC’s Director of Finance & Administration Thierry Sprunger Steps Down

International Olympic Committee’s (IOC) Director of Finance and Administration, Thierry Sprunger, is stepping down to pursue “new challenges”, after a 17-year tenure serving the organisation.

Commenting on his decision, Sprunger said: “Working at the IOC has been a privilege and an honour. I had the pleasure of working under President Juan Antonio Samaranch for seven years, with a further 10 years under President Rogge.

“I am particularly fortunate that my years in the Olympic Movement coincided with a period of sustained growth – a remarkable achievement, especially given recent global economic events. My role as a Director has changed a great deal during my tenure, and is now very disconnected from the operational role I most enjoy. This is why, after much consideration,

“I have decided to leave the organisation in order to focus directly on the projects closest to my heart in the area of sports development and supporting future host cities of multi-sports events in their efforts to reduce their costs.”

IOC President Jacques Rogge added: “Thierry has been an integral and key member of the leadership team here at the IOC and we wish him every success in his future. Over nearly two decades of service, he has made a huge contribution both to the IOC and to the Olympic Movement in general – his skills and talent have helped us to modernise and transform the administration.”

Sprunger’s almost two-decade term spanned 10 Olympic Games (five Summer and five Winter), and, during this time, he was responsible for guiding Organising Committees for the Olympic Games through the financing of the Games. Sprunger also oversaw the annual general meetings of the IOC (the IOC Sessions) in Prague, Singapore, Guatemala City, Copenhagen and Durban, at which Olympic hosts Vancouver 2010, London 2012, Sochi 2014, Rio 2016 and PyeongChang 2018 were elected.
