RTÉ Sport Ends Premier League Coverage in Ireland

Irish broadcaster, viagra order RTÉ Sport has confirmed that it will no longer have the rights to television coverage of the Premier League.

A statement from RTÉ Sport said: “In a period of significant financial pressure RTÉ Sport, along with all other areas of the organisation, has been required to deliver significant production and personnel efficiencies.

“As part of an organisation-wide cost cutting initiative RTÉ’s Director General has publicly stated that the cost of sports rights must be reduced by 25% from 2011 levels by 2015.

“Many efficiencies have already been delivered while continuing to deliver quality programming with significantly less resources. However, it has not been possible to manage the financial deficit without an impact on output.”

RTÉ’s Group Head of Sport Ryle Nugent said that national teams and games will remain the priority of the broadcaster.

He said: “This is a hard choice to make. The relationship with the Premier League has provided us with programming that has been the backbone of our output for many years and there is a real affinity with the output.

“However, RTÉ TV Sport has had to adjust its commitments in line with every other area of the organisation.

“My strategy has been, and will continue to be, the protection of our national teams and national games programming such as GAA, Horse Racing, the Airtricity League and so on.

“Despite the difficult news today, we are still in an extremely good place with regard to our TV sports output by comparison to any public service broadcaster in Europe.”

Nugent added: “We have been very successful in our rights negotiations in recent times, despite extremely tough targets, with new contracts delivered for television in soccer output with the European and World Cup qualifiers, home and away, until 2018 and the World Cup Finals of 2014, 2018 and 2022.

“In rugby we have secured the national teams matches in the 6 Nations and Autumn Internationals until the end of 2017.

“This summer we will begin the process of renegotiating with the GAA and I hope to have definitive news on the Summer Olympics in 2016 in the coming weeks.”

NBC to Decline Using YouTube for Sochi 2014 Highlights

According to reports, link NBC will no longer be using YouTube to stream highlights for major games after declining to use the service for the Sochi 2014 Winter Olympic Games

Sports Business Daily reported that NBC, cough which holds the United States Olympic broadcasting rights, herbal chose not to partner with YouTube and is looking to develop its own content management system. It is unclear if NBC will create a video player for their Olympic Games coverage.

During the 2012 Summer Olympic Games in London, NBC and YouTube broadcast more than 3,500 hours of coverage and counted more than 231 million total streams. Visitors streamed more than 20.4 million hours of video on the NBCOlympics.com website.

Many, however, criticized NBC for not streaming the opening and closing ceremonies live on its dedicated Olympic Games website and on television, and also for their unreliable streams of other events. NBC’s lack of live coverage for the ceremonies prompted many internet users to watch unauthorized streams from the BBC and other international broadcasters. Despite the complaints, NBC executives said at that time that they were pleased with their partnership with YouTube.

The Sochi 2014 Winter Olympics will run between February 7-23, 2014.

Primera Division Agrees Youtube Deal

The Spanish Primera Division has become the latest major league to embrace YouTube after the video-sharing website agreed a three-year deal with Mediapro.

The agency, which is a rights-holder of Spanish football, said the agreement includes the Primera Division, Segunda Division and the Copa del Rey from the second round, but not the final.

Content including match highlights, goals, interviews with players and coaches and press conferences will be available via the www.youtube.com/laliga channel.

The videos will be uploaded to the channel 30 minutes after matches are finished and will be accessible via PC, smartphone and tablet devices.

Users will not be able embed videos on  other websites. “For now we want users to come to our channel, we’ll see later,” Mediapro’s, Ignacio Arrola, said. “The goal is for fans to follow their teams more closely, and not just what is broadcast on television.”

YouTube’s director of strategic alliances, Maria Ferreras, stated the agreement does not include live rights. Ferreras said: “This agreement does not cover it, but we have shown in previous direct experiences that we are prepared and that, if this point is confirmed, our platform is ready.”{jcomments on}
