WWE Renew Tens Sports Broadcast Deal

WWE have extended their partnership with Indian broadcaster Ten Sports through to 2019.

The new partnership will look to grow WWE’s weekly flagship programming to include localized content, sample pills more languages and live events.

In addition to the continued broadcasts of WWE’s flagship programs RawSmackDownNXT and monthly pay-per-view specials, starting January 1, 2015, Ten Sports will introduce a new one-hour fully customized version of Raw tailored specifically for the Indian audience and add WWE Main Event to its programming lineup. Ten Sports will also air WWE content in multiple Indian languages for the first time and bring WWE live events back to India in 2015.

Badminton England Appoint Gavin Finch as Head of Marketing

Badminton England have revealed a new Head of Marketing with the appointment of Gavin Finch.

The organisation has pin pointed Marketing and Communications as a key part of its strategy and hope the appointment will strengthen this area.

Chief Executive of BADMINTON England, Adrian Christy said: “I am delighted that Gavin has agreed to join our team as we embark on a really exciting period for English badminton.

Premier League Continue Anti-Piracy Push with Irdeto Partnership

The Premier League has sealed a partnership with leading media protection company Irdeto as they look to continue efforts to protect their intellectual property.

Irdeto will work with the Premier League in a number of areas, shop including a specific programme to investigate the illegal supply of set-top boxes that allow commercial organisations – including pubs and bars in the UK and overseas – to receive illegal streams of Barclays Premier League matches.

The intelligence that Irdeto provides to the Premier League will enhance their abilitiy to obtain the evidence required to take legal action against suppliers of systems that allow illegal broadcasting of our matches.

Bastien Hibon Leaves Mercedes F1 Team to Join Limelight Sports as Marketing Director

Sport experience agency Limelights Sports has hired Bastien Hibon as Marketing Director following his departure from Mercedes AMG PETRONAS F1 team. 

Hibon has worked in Formula One for 5 years, doctor firstly as Head of Brand for the Honda team, pills then as Marketing Director of BrawnGP which became Mercedes AMG PETRONAS. 

He began work at Limelight Sports in August as Marketing Director where his role will be to develop the proposition of mass participation sport and expand the opportunities for major brands to build associations and partnerships with one of the fastest growing sports sectors. 

Hibon originally trained as a journalist and worked in broadcast for Medialink International and for Ogilvy PR. He then became Creative Director & Head of Communications for Climate Change, Friends of the Earth, where he used mass public engagement to achieve the UK Climate Change Act. 

Limelight Sports has created many of the UK’s highest profile participation sport campaigns and events including the Sainsburys’ Sport Relief Mile and Sky Ride. Limelight Sports also runs Swimathon, the annual national swimming challenge and works with the Royal Parks Foundation to stage a unique half marathon in London.  The agency also owns properties such as Boutique Sport, a women’s only fitness programme and the London Duathlon, the world’s biggest duathlon.

Glasgow 2014 Applicants Discover Which Tickets They’ve Secured for the Games

Monday, abortion September 30 marks a thrilling milestone for hundreds of thousands of sports fans who will discover the tickets they’ve successfully secured for the UK’s next big sporting festival, ailment the Glasgow 2014 Commonwealth Games. 

From this afternoon applicants will start to find out which world-class sports sessions they’ll be part of next summer. It’s going to be an exciting moment – especially for those who have applied for extremely high-demand sessions where requests outstripped supply which will be allocated as part of a fair draw process. 

A bumper 2.3million requests for up to one million tickets were made during the Glasgow 2014 ticketing window. This overwhelming demand for tickets confirms Glasgow 2014 as one of the most popular events in Scotland’s history with 17 sports on offer across 11 days of elite competition, adiposity ensuring 4500 Commonwealth athletes competing for Gold and glory in Glasgow will do so in packed stadia. 

The fair draw process has been applied to ticket applications for all sessions of Diving, Swimming, Mountain Bike, Track Cycling, Artistic Gymnastic, Judo, Shooting and Triathlon along with individual sessions across the whole Sports Programme which attracted more requests than available tickets. 

Track Cycling in particular saw 25 times more requests than tickets available. The eagerly anticipated 100m final to be held in Hampden Park was also a popular choice with more than 100,000 tickets requested than were available. 

All ticket applicants will receive an email or letter within the next few days. 

All applicants will also be informed of the exclusive on-sale period when they can buy more tickets before they are released for general public sale. 

Glasgow 2014 Deputy Chief Executive Ty Speer, who heads the Ticketing Programme, said

“Today marks yet another exciting moment in the journey to Glasgow 2014 and it’s a real pleasure to share the details of which great live sporting moments Games fans will be part of next summer. 

“The overwhelming enthusiasm demonstrated by hundreds of thousands of people already guarantees tremendous crowds across the board for Commonwealth athletes. This is a real vote of confidence and it’s clear that so many people intend to make sure this is going to be a great Games in Glasgow. 

“I’d also like to remind everyone who has applied of the exclusive on-sale period which will give them the first opportunity on all remaining tickets.” 

The exclusive on-sale period will start from mid-October when those who have previously applied for tickets will also get the opportunity to buy any remaining unsold tickets. In late October any remaining tickets will go on general sale to the public.

IOC Nominates Sir Craig Reedie for WADA Presidency

Sir Craig Reedie has been nominated by the International Olympic Committee to suceed John Fahey as World Anti-Doping Agency president.

Reedie, an IOC vice president from Britain, was chosen ahead of former Olympic hurdles great Edwin Moses and former IOC medical director Patrick Schamasch.

Reedie told iSportconnect that if he was nominated by the IOC he would be eager to take up the position.

“If they (IOC) ask me to do it I will be delighted to do it,” he said.

Current president John Fahey, a former Australian minister will step downfrom the role at the end of the year.

The 72-year-old, who is already a member of WADA’s executive committee will be put up for election at November’s World Conference on Doping in Sport in Johannesburg.

He is currently busy chairing the Evaluation Commission Committee for the 2020 Summer Olympics.

Platini Presidential Re-election Goes Unopposed

As expected, it has been confirmed that no other candidates have contested the re-election of current UEFA president, Michel Platini, ahead of the midnight deadline on Wednesday. The decision to leave Platini as an unopposed candidate means that it is all but a certainty that the Frenchman will continue in his role for another 3 years after his introduction in 2007.

UEFA confirmed that, “UEFA president Michel Platini will be seeking a second four-year term of office from 2011 to 2015,” after the former France international soccer player revealed that he would put himself forward once again earlier in the year.

The biggest challenge that Platini may face in his extended tenure is expected to be the implementation UEFA’s financial fair play rules in 2012. The new regulations will limit spending in order to safeguard the future of European clubs but is set to receive a frosty reaction from the continents biggest and most wealthy clubs.

MTG Renews F1 Rights Deal in Baltics & Scandinavia
