Cleveland Cavaliers Partners with Social Calendar Platform UpTo

UpTo, the nation’s leading social calendar platform, has partnered with the NBA’s Cleveland Cavaliers to give Cavs fans a powerful new way to see what’s coming up with the team and the entire franchise.

UpTo allows users to discover and curate upcoming public events, friends’ plans and the user’s own schedule in one place with clarity and accuracy.  The application integrates with the user’s calendar to make it simple to share what they are “up to” with specific groups such as family, friends or coworkers.

Although UpTo provides users the option to follow the game schedule of any major professional sports team, the Cleveland Cavaliers is the first team to allow unprecedented access to all events, promotions and announcements related to the team. Cavs’ player appearances, charity events, detailed broadcast information and more can all be accessed seamlessly through the UpTo app.

In addition, UpTo will feature calendar streams for other events happening in and around downtown Cleveland.

“We’re very excited to partner with UpTo to provide our fans a unique and highly effective way for them to connect with the Cavaliers and with each other,” said Brandon Jirousek, Cavaliers senior manager of digital content and operations.

While social networks such as Facebook, Twitter and Foursquare let users connect and share past or present status updates, UpTo allows users to connect with friends regarding their upcoming plans and any future public events.

“UpTo gives teams the opportunity to engage with fans and grow excitement and loyalty for their team through an unparalleled level of transparency and precision about all future happenings surrounding the franchise,” said Greg Schwartz, founder and CEO of UpTo.

IOC Aims to Resolve Issues with IOA

The International Olympic Committee (IOC) took the first step towards resolving issues with the Indian Olympic Association (IOA) by inviting the Union government and two IOA officials to Lausanne for talks.

The sports ministry welcomed the move. “We were sure things would start moving in January. We are glad that the IOC is playing a proactive role in sorting out the problem. We look forward to a dialogue with them,” secretary of sports, P.K. Deb, said.

This is the first time since the IOA was suspended on December 4 last year that the IOC has officially involved the government.

IOC representatives sent a letter to acting leading officials of the suspended IOA that said: “The suspended IOA must be in a position to hold free, fair, transparent and credible elections without any external interference and exclusively on the basis of the Olympic Charter and the IOA’s constitution.”

The IOC wants “relevant government authorities to definitively amend or repeal regulations or laws which interfere with the autonomous functioning and internal operations (including the election rules) of the suspended IOA.”

The IOC also stated that it wanted the IOA to review its constitution and internal regulations and “make necessary amendments, in close collaboration with the IOC and subject to IOC’s approval…to include proper and concrete mechanisms to ensure good governance at all levels and implement all basic ethical principles.”{jcomments on}

Bundesliga Against Implementing Goal-Line Technology

Germany’s top-flight Bundesliga have revealed they will not introduce goal-line technology

This is the result of a German Football Federation (DFB) board meeting, in which head referee Herbert Fandel “expressed his concern about the technology.” FIFA allows national federations to decide if they want to use a goal judge or goal-line technology, which all have a margin of error between two and three centimeters.

The Bundesliga wrote on their website: “In view of the contrasting positions of FIFA and UEFA, as well as the unanswered questions regarding measurement precision, the executive board of the League Association has decided not to introduce goal-line technology in the Bundesliga and Bundesliga 2 for the time being.

“A final decision will not be made until the results of FIFA’s planned tests at the FIFA Club World Cup in December in Japan and at the Confederations Cup in the summer in Brazil have been evaluated. The introduction of goal-line technology for the start of the 2013/14 season is, therefore, not an issue at present.

“After consultation and analysis of a club survey, the management board concluded that opinions were split on the matter.”
