AISTS expands its capacity to provide expertise in the area of sustainable sport and events.
AISTS announced Dr Tania Braga to take up the newly created position of Scientific Head of Sustainable Sport & Event.
Dr. Braga has a PhD in applied economics from the State University of Campinas (UNICAMP) Brazil and has profound expertise in sustainability with more than 10 years of professional experience in the area.
Former senior researcher at IMD Business School, Dr. Braga brings to AISTS her solid scientific background combined with a successful hands-on experience in managing sustainability projects for local and national governments, research institutions, global companies and NGOs.
The 39 years old Brazilian and French citizen is also a lecturer at the University of Lausanne (Faculty of Geosciences and Environment).
In her new position, Dr. Braga will be responsible for the further development of The Sustainable Sport and Event Toolkit (SSET) Centre, directing research and providing expertise to sports organisations on how to enhance the environmental and social legacy of sports events. She will contribute to the development of content and lectures for AISTS postgraduate, continuing and executive education programmes.
“I was delighted to learn about AISTS’ work on sustainability and felt utterly compelled to join the organisation,” stated Dr Braga. “Sport events have the potential to be a powerful catalyser to make our societies (and our cities) more sustainable. I look forward to contributing to sport organisations by exploring new avenues to bring sustainability to the heart of sport management.”
“I am extremely pleased to welcome Dr Braga to the team, her experience in sustainability is a considerable asset for AISTS and will enable the further development of AISTS’ expertise in this field” says Executive Director, Dr Claude Stricker.
Sustainable Sports and Event Seminar, first module taught by Dr Braga, will engage participants from sports industry, research and governing bodies in an active project challenge, working together to create a prototype of a sustainable sport event. It will take place from 23 June to 25 June at the EPFL in Lausanne. The seminar, opened to external participants and AISTS Executive MBA participants, is also part of the Master in Sport Administration and Technology curriculum.
